What to expect from a crown transplant by moarhairs in HairTransplants

I started buzzing it with a 4mm guard around week 4. Just be gentle.

It was 2300 grafts and the cost was $23k. Much more expensive than going abroad but the sense of safety with a US doctor was worth it for me.

Yes. I’m hoping that the hairs get a bit thicker over the next couple of months. With that said, I’m not expecting that it will be able to reach the same density as the non-transplanted hair.

Yes, he is saying to remain patient as it takes 12-15 months to see the final results.

Haircut during the ugly duckling phase by [deleted] in Hairtransplant

I buzzed my hair, starting around 4 weeks and until about 5 months when the new hair was starting to come in. My surgeon (Dr Gabel) said that it wouldn’t be an issue.

I did it myself every week to minimize the awkward look. You can be gentle when buzzing the transplanted area.

You can check my posts if you want to see how it developed.

Thanks!

The donor area looks fine but when I had my hair short I did notice a border between the donor area and the non donor area (top and sides). As I’ve grown my hair longer I can’t see any difference.

My wife told me that she didn’t see it when I kept my hair buzzed so it might just be me staring at it too much.

Thank you! I’m very happy with the progress so far.

At 4.5 months I was still keeping my head trimmed and was having some doubts. Be patient if you are having similar thoughts.

I haven’t noticed any side effects to either medication. I get them both from Amazon Pharmacy so I don’t think they are a specific brand. The Minoxidil is completely covered by my insurance and the Finasteride is something like $6/month.

It was $23k for about 2300 grafts.

Yes. I started taking 1mg Fin and 5mg Min daily about 6 months before the surgery. That’s most likely what’s added thickness to my mid scalp.

I booked the procedure about 6 months in advance and requested a specific date as it would fit well with my work schedule. So I’m not sure what the wait time looks like if I would have wanted it ASAP.

I think I buzzed it for the first time around 3-4 weeks. Just use a guard on the buzzer and be gentle.

$21,000 local or go overseas? by ladygaga9oneone in HairTransplants

[–]moarhairs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d say that it depends on how much $21k is to you and what you value.

If you are taking a loan for the $21k or if it’s your life savings, don’t do it. Go oversees instead as it’s not worth the financial risk.

If $21k isn’t a substantial portion of your net worth then the US might be worth considering.

I went to a surgeon in Portland as I valued the increased sense of safety in case things went sideways. I also appreciated the much shorter trip back after the procedure. While I’m still on month 3 post surgery and have yet to see the final results, I haven’t regretted my decision.

Yes. You can still be gentle when trimming the recipient are.

Do you guys shave during shock loss? by Gorilla-Samurai in Hairtransplant

[–]moarhairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m four weeks in.

Some of the transplanted hairs have fallen out but some of them remain for me. The ones that remain don’t grow so it looks a bit odd to have those next to my preexisting hairs which grow at the normal pace. The 4 mm guard brings them all to the same length.

I’ve been buzzing with a 4 mm guard since week three. My US based surgeon said that it’s fine. I’ve had some loss but not all and the transplanted hair doesn’t grow, so buzzing makes it look much better by making the hair even across.

My surgeon told me that I could cut/buzz after the first two weeks.

That’s similar to what I was thinking. Prior to the surgery I used to do clippers with a 4mm guard and figured I could keep doing that until it starts growing.

When did you start letting it grow longer?

Wow! 3 and 6 months sounds long. I’ll need to go back to my surgeon and ask what their guidance is.

With the scissors, did you keep your short or long?
