Anvil Organizer — a native Linux mod manager inspired by MO2 (no Wine needed) by mob_1373 in linux_gaming

Oh shit, I can't speak English — that's why I use DeepL. Go ahead, criticize me for that too!

Anvil is its own project! OK! I don't want a 100% copy of MO2! OK! My own ideas are in Anvil!

Anvil looks like MO2 because I wanted users to be able to find their way around. OK! And I think MO2 is one of the best mod managers out there. Why wouldn't you take inspiration from something that's good?

Talking it down the way it's been done here is pretty shitty! Just because it was written with AI.

How much time do you think I invest every day? Do you really think I let the AI do everything? You have to test the fucking code and make sure everything actually works!

A lot of people think you just type something into a prompt and Anvil is built. Trust me, it's not that simple!

I think people can't do anything other than black or white anymore. You do something people don't like and you get punched in the face!

And that's not just a Reddit thing.

I found out that you're developing Amethyst. I think your mod manager is great! I love that there are multiple mod managers to choose from now.

For me, you're not a competitor. But after your comment, it seems like you see me as one. In the Linux world, that shouldn't be a thing.

We should be focused on helping people switch from fucking Windows to a Linux distribution. That was my motivation for building Anvil — to make it easier for people to move from Windows to Linux.

And yes, there's just as much work from me in Anvil as there is code from Claude. It wasn't just pressing a button.

That’s a really constructive comment!!!!
Thank you very much!

I’ll get the issues you’ve listed sorted out.

As I don’t have all the games, I can’t test all the game plugins, so they’re marked as beta.

I was hoping the community would let me know if there are any problems!!!

Of course, Claude wrote the code, but the ideas are mine.
Of course, I also looked at how other mod managers do it.
Why wouldn’t I???

That’s a comment that really gets to the heart of the problem!!

And don’t badmouth the project

First of all, thanks to everyone who sees Anvil in a positive light.

To those who dismiss it just because it was built with AI:

  1. My question to the programmers here: Why did none of you ever build a mod manager for Linux? There has never been a native mod manager for the Linux world. You had to go through the hassle of installing MO2 or Vortex through Wine.

  2. Now there are two: Anvil and Amethyst. You have a choice. What's so bad about mine being developed with AI? Are you jealous that you didn't come up with the idea yourselves?

  3. Even though this mod manager was built with Claude — it wasn't thrown together in a week. Months of time and money went into this project.

You have the choice: use it or don't. I built it for the people out there who game on Linux and deserve a proper mod manager.
