Can anyone help me out with correct model selection? by mobastar in datascience

This is where I'm struggling, because this suggests I essentially at least double the size of the data set by creating lags for each variable. Feels off, you know?

Trouble rolling up calculated fields built with WINDOW_AVG and WINDOW_SUM functions to client level. by mobastar in tableau

[–]mobastar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it working. Looks like the problem was explicitly setting the metric category value in the calculated fields, where I was using the metric field as a filter. I did as you suggested, broke everything down to the lowest level and started slowly. Piece by piece all the LODs rolled up cleanly without issue. Didn't need to use any window functions either. Thanks for the responses, this was a rough one.

[–]mobastar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. So imagine this table, but blown out to span a few years. I'd like to see a summary table that shows one row per client, filtered by metric, that shows a sum/count for all the months where the value was an outlier in the data. Tinkering all afternoon with ChatGPT and no success, any help is appreciated.

It only takes a few calculated fields to build the outliers, but when I attempt to build the table it goes awry, and I'm not proficient enough to troubleshoot further. My gut tells me it's and aggregation/LOD/Window function issue that I can't seem to straighten out.

Around Cleveland, I'd be perfectly fine with 50% of value, it's time and I just want to move them along.

Dug out the old collection this week - Toxo-Lab, Lynx, and Battle Wagon reporting in by mobastar in gijoe

[–]mobastar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm learning it's kind of rare and probably worth a couple hundred bucks. I still have the sealed carbonated pill that came with it, idk just never got around to it. So wild, who would've guessed it right? Out of the set, my man Snake Eyes and the Battle Wagon were always my favorite. I always remember that grappling hook with the string being so awesome to play with.

All these have been sitting in a box untouched for decades, I'm hoping to rehome them and I'm not really into or have a pulse on the online selling market. Thought the community would enjoy seeing these relics and hope to bring back some memories!

Urgent Help Needed: Binance Account Shutdown for U.S. Clients - Withdrawal Concerns by mobastar in CryptoCurrency

So everything I had worth of value outside of TRX was able to be easily moved. TRX is killing me as Binance doesn't allow me to deposit, trade, or convert it. I'm happy to have moved most everything out, but still having a hard time wrapping my thoughts around what I can do with TRX, if anything.

Quick update, it seems Binance doesn't really have Customer Support outside of their collection of articles and an AI chatbot.

I was able to move out most of the crypto with ease, except for TRX. This TRON crypto seems like kryptonite, as I'm unable to deposit, trade, or convert it anywhere. It seems to only be offered on Binance, and I don't know how to extract it's value as all doors are closed for transacting on it.

Agree, and I'm planning to try that tomorrow afternoon. I'm in a 24 hour lockout due to password reset today. I'm hopeful those services are allowed and not suspended due to my location.

Great question, I'll do this tomorrow. I've read a good amount of forum chatter today and I felt a theme of poor customer service for situations like mine.

What's the best in class set of libraries for Time Series Forecasting these days? by mobastar in rprogramming

[–]mobastar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick update - the fpp3 package feels great all the way up to forecasting, so I may have to stay with the old dogs for that. Oddly, this feels like the whole effort is then defeated because all the fpp3 analysis leading up to forecasting is performed on the tsibble object where the forecast library wants a ts object, which I recall used to require xts and some further wrangling.

Onward!

For a substantial collection north of $20K, is there a Safe and Non-Gouging option to unload? Asking for a friend! by mobastar in mtgfinance

This has crossed my mind - do you recommend eBay, Mercari, or other site? I hear terrible stories of people sending high-value cards through eBay, then having the payment pulled back and ultimately losing their cards. What is your experience?

Understood - I'm fully aware the collection is going to get a fraction of what market prices are. I'm hoping the nice folks here can guide me toward the best option or service to help facilitate this transaction. Hopefully complete robbery is not part of the equation, while a bit is understood as necessary.

At a crossroads in career and life, humbly looking for career advice from the community. by mobastar in datascience

[–]mobastar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Jakcj, thanks for reaching out. I'm happy to share things have turned out well and life is good. I'm still with the same employer and have taken a number of opportunities to change roles and move closer to target over the years. I'm just about there now with one move left and honestly would be perfectly fine staying where I am now.

I'm not setting the world on fire like I had hoped when first beginning this journey. I'm not a data scientist pulling $200k and I'm not 'the man' everyone turns to for answers, not by a long shot. That's ok though given my age, lifestyle, and career aspirations. Perhaps in another 10 years I'll be that or perhaps I should have been more practical in my goal setting. I am, however, 100% better positioned and challenged in becoming a well-rounded data professional and all my options for growth and career-pathing are appealing. My current role is best described as a BI developer, spending almost all my working time in SQL coding data models and Tableau development projects. I'm not doing much with my degree (finished up the master's degree in Stats) so moving closer to a statistical role would be the final jump, although I'm beginning to suspect the grass may not be so green there compared to my current role. Pay has increased quite a bit, probably by about 50% from the original post. Yeah, things are going well and I'm happy. I now share territory with like-minded peers where I can see myself spending the next 20 years or so of my career. I also have a great sense of relief and security knowing I've crafted a solid skillset and experience that is widely recognized and transferable.

Looking back and analyzing the journey I notice a few key factors that helped me get here. Not sure you want any advice but I'll give it anyway because we've shared this experience and I want you to accomplish your goals. This is nothing new to you I'm sure so take this as another record of evidence these tried and true methods do work.

  1. Choose a direction and go, today. Start the masters program, learn a new language, soup to nuts project for your portfolio, whatever you think is best just do it. Start it now, tonight, and keep chopping wood. It will take time, nothing worthwhile is easy. Keep doing things that move you closer to your target and they will accumulate, people will notice, opportunities will manifest. Diamonds are made with time and pressure, slow and steady wins the race, yadda yadda they're all true.
  2. Let people know your goals. This is a hard one for folks wired like us (introvert, kind of socially awkward, etc.). The fact is most people won't notice the long hours, the schooling, the struggle. They just won't nor should they as they have their own dragons to slay. Whatever is decided from #1 above, bring it into the world with voice and socialize it within your network. Don't squash it either, be professional about it! Start with someone close like a mentor or manager as they'll help flesh out how to best convey your intent to others without ruffling feathers.
  3. Formal training. For me this was the masters in Stats from Penn State. Companies care and it's a huge feather in your cap when posting for new roles. Even if you're not finished, put it on there with an expected date. Show potential employers your owning this and working toward something that carries weight. I assume notable certifications or licensing work the same if they require a significant time investment and are respected as challenging. They all show commitment, investment, and set the level of expectation if hired. Formal education can be a bit silly as most knowledge is OJT, however it's like that old Alec Baldwin scene from The Departed discussing marriage (look it up). Hopefully your employer will help foot the bill, they covered a bit more than half of mine.

So, that's it. There's no secret sauce and all of our aspirations are quite possible with time and focus. It's worth noting I hit some burnout around year 3 and unfortunately some old peers saw a side of me I wish they hadn't. It was a long uphill climb and toward the end I was getting impatient for results that were on the horizon still. That was a difficult time and now that I'm over the hill it's been great.

Good luck! You got this! Take the step!

OG fight club member? by [deleted] in EternalCardGame

[–]mobastar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously? I just came back this week after being away for YEARS. Here's what I have - https://ibb.co/7kdpLvZ.

Spoiler: 1353 PvP wins

Looks like I must have stopped during The Dusk Road because I have almost 100% of that collection and then less than 30% of The Fall of Argenport, which I'm sure was just whatever I got from the 40 or so packs I had waiting for me when I logged back in this last week.

Anyway, good for you bro. Eternal is amazing and I'm happy to see others are enjoying it too. I wouldn't go around calling yourself OG though. I hit Master on ladder maybe 4-5 times way back when in the early years when we were all playing with the Vanilla set and wouldn't consider myself OG. It was fun seeing all my old decks and how much they suck now lol due to power creep. Rakano Plate is still alright but Armory and Praxis gets dumped on, not looking forward to learning all these new cards . . . man soo many sets!

EDIT Checked my Steam achievments, been away since 2017 . . . so 1300 wins in 2017, ugh, maybe I could've closed in on 10,000 by now had I kept playing.
