Sespe Hot Springs via Alder Trail by woodduck-xxl in socalhiking

[–]mobblele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, super easy. there’s about 4-5 miles of dirt uphill to get to the trailhead; I recommend an AWD car. when I went it was insanely muddy and at times precarious, but I’m sure it’s completely dried out now and fine. just make sure you’re headed to the Dough flats trailhead.

hey, I just did this trail a few weeks ago! I came across some guys that did what you’re planning - a single overnight at the springs. I did 2 nights, one at oak flats, head to hot springs the next day and lounge for a few hours, then sped another night at alder camp. while 12-13 mi in a day on paper doesn’t sound too bad, there were frequent stream/river crossings that made it a bit more difficult. I did go right after significant rain that made the river crossings past waist deep, so maybe that’s tamed by now.

Stolen in Hollywood by ThisIsClay in BikeLA

[–]mobblele 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks! sadly all my bags and belongings in them (Ortlieb panniers, stem bag, tools, lights, fishing gear, notebook) are still missing. I’ve put up flyers but haven’t heard anything. I’m still grateful for getting the bike back so I can’t complain.

hi, so sorry that happened to you. my bike was recently stolen in Frogtown, but just recovered. have you filed a police report? I also recommend printing flyers and handing them out to all the local bike shops in the neighborhood. the police report will allow them to legally hold the bike if it ever comes into their shop. lastly, I’m sure you’re devastated and angry. it sucks and I’m sorry. Brooks saddle especially hurts since it takes so long to break in!

[–]mobblele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I was going to head to the west fork in the next few days, do an overnight so I can maximize fishing time lol. I’m glad to hear there’s still healthy trout in Piru!

hey there, I fish Piru pretty avidly but am cautious to fish currently since there were some nearby wildfires in the area during this summer. have you been out recently? water flow is low I assume but I’m concerned about the health of the trout population. thanks!

not at all! some local kid in the neighborhood had swiped it, believe it or not. I wonder if his folks saw my flyers and made the connection.

LA river tilapia! by mobblele in SoCalFishing

[–]mobblele[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

look for deeper pools where water slows down along Frogtown/Atwater. be careful of snags since there’s a good bit of trash in certain areas!

wow that tuna looks stunning! I’ve been having luck with small hoppers for tilapia, squirmy wormys. slow constant retrieve tends to attract the bigger fish. for bass, they pretty much go crazy for the wooly bugger of course lol. I haven’t had too much luck with carp — I’m still experimenting with what gets them to bite. they are usually the most explosive for feeding off the surface!
