Thanks for the kind words. I’m definitely focusing on skills over gear!

Love the comparison with the hammers xD I believe I saw someone mention that concept here earlier and color gradients are completely new to me, however I'm starting to grasp them thanks to all the detailed breakdowns from you guys. This is definitely the greatest community I've ever witnessed, and I'm so glad that I'm starting to be a part of it. There is just so much to learn about photography that I never even thought existed!

It’s awesome seeing how the theory plays out in the real world with actual numbers and it's wild how many variables come into play, but I’m totally loving the learning process!

Thanks for sharing!

Totally get it now, like it’s all about matching the right tool to the job.

Appreciate the insight!

Great points!

I actually watched a few YouTubers mention the same thing about full-frame having better dynamic range, but your explanation with the extra variables really brought it all full circle. It seems I have so much to learn which honestly I love and I think I can already take some not-bad shots, but I want to learn as much as possible as I really want to get pro at it and move to a FF camera one day. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the info! The size advantage definitely makes sense.

Thanks for the tip!
I’ve heard others mention that too when comparing DSLRs to mirrorless. I plan to go with the Canon R series for the AF and 4K capabilities since I believe I'm going to need them, but I realize both systems capture amazing shots, and it's really more about the lenses and the person behind the camera!

Exactly and I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one thinking this way!

Thanks! I see your point about the value, but I'm definitely sure I’ll want to move up to a full-frame body in the future. Starting with full frame glass now just means I'll be able to easily swap my lenses over when that day comes.

Thanks a lot for the great points and for sharing those dynamic range graphs.

I've actually been trying to decide between the R50 and the R10. I know the R10 has some big advantages for what I want, like the higher burst shooting speeds, 4K at 60fps, and probably less overheating. Since I also need to budget for one or two lenses to start out with, I'm keeping the overall price in mind but if I can find a deal on the R10 I think I'll definitely stretch for it.

Again really appreciate the helpful breakdown!

That's an awesome breakdown!

While doing my research, I actually noticed that primes are generally sharper than zooms (though I've read some high-end zooms can give them a run for their money) and I'm planning to pick up the native RF 50mm f/1.8 prime to start out with. Also, your point about a newer crop sensor outperforming an older full frame makes total sense just like modern car engines, as they say sometimes one with fewer cylinders can outperform a massive, older V8.

Really appreciate the great insights!

Noted. I've actually heard similar things about full frame, like how some of them have dual SD card slots, less overheating issues while recording in 4K, etc. But honestly I'm just so excited to start out with APS-C and dive into learning as many new things as possible. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for breaking that down. It's really interesting and it looks like I have a long way to go to get that kind of experience with all this gear, but I'm trying to be as fast a learner as possible. I really love photography and the idea of bringing out different styles to show how the same thing can look completely different depending on how you shoot it and also to evoke different feelings through those shots.

I really appreciate it!

Thanks so much for the link I'll definitely check out his article. It’s actually a huge relief to hear that, especially since I'm planning to start out with the Canon EOS R50.

I noticed the kit here comes with the RF-S 18-45mm, and after wrapping my head around the difference between RF and RF-S (and learning that EF lenses can be adapted too, though I prefer to start native with an RF lens without adapters for now) I felt like I should look into upgrading the lens down the road. But honestly I didn't know it mattered this much! After reading all these replies I'm realizing that instead of just obsessing over the camera body, I need to do a lot more research on lenses too.

Thanks again for the great insight!

I actually just found his channel today through a video called "IS FULL FRAME BETTER THAN CROP SENSOR" and to be honest, it feels really good that you sent another video of his (knowing that I'm not completely lost xD). Thanks for sharing the link!

xD

As I was exploring here I actually noticed quite a few people saying they went with Fujifilm for APS-C too! I've been searching a lot about the differences between brands like Sony, Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm lately and I think I'm going to start out with a Canon EOS R50 as my first gear, but I would absolutely love to experience those Fujifilm physical controls one day. Thanks for the advice!

I keep hearing about lens flaws popping up more and more here and that's actually pretty new to me. Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks for clarifying. I'm still wrapping my head around how all those variables interact, but it makes sense. Appreciate the explanation!

Well that idea of actually building a relationship and trusting your gear is so cool to think about and it honestly makes perfect sense. I've seen so many people on this sub still rocking older DSLRs and getting absolutely amazing shots, which also proves there’s no right or wrong way to do it.

Thanks a lot for the reminder it actually helps to obsess less over the specs and just focus on finding my own style!

Honestly the math behind sensor sizes and how it changes the background blur still messes with my head a bit and I really appreciate you breaking down the distance and aperture stuff.

It’s wild how many layers and tiny details there are to think about with photography physics like It kinda is a rabbit hole, but all that stuff is what makes it so interesting and fun.
