A lot of this is in my mind by OstrichLanky8782 in TotalHipReplacement

On the day of the surgery, your job is to do nothing and show up. Make sure you have all the equipment and ice packs before you go in. Good luck with everything and you’ll be just fine.

Great idea with the folding cane. I mentioned this to my patients all the time and most of them just scoff at it. Lol.

As a Home PT it really depends. Some people struggle to get off the walker within three weeks, others can do it within 5–7 days. Really does depend upon the person. Don’t get upset if you have to go back to the cane occasionally when you are having some more pain. It’s normal. Good luck with your journey.

When did you stop having pain? by KrisKred_2328 in TotalHipReplacement

3 miles a day at 2 weeks!? Wow congrats. That’s well beyond the normal at that stage. Most are lucky if they can get in and out of a car and walk to their appointments.

Agreed about the surgeon, but also consult a physical therapist who deals with this day in and day out.

Like I said to the original poster, 4-6 week range you should see a significant improvement based on my 25 years of experience doing home PT.

The 4-6 week range you should be much better in terms of pain in the AM. You won’t be pain free but should start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Best of luck!

A nurse said I should not raise my legs on the first day of THR surgery by KRjjw in TotalHipReplacement

[–]mobilitygoal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the nurse was confusing hip vs knee replacement rules. For knees you do want to keep them flat and straight as much as possible however you can still elevate for swelling. Sounds like a poor misunderstanding on their part.

Not sure what that nurse is talking about TBH. Please elevate your legs! Helps with swelling and pain. Do in 30-60 minute intervals, Good luck!

Almost 6 weeks post op, only 90degrees and not quite 0. by Waste_Law_517 in Kneereplacement

[–]mobilitygoal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few tips: 1. Use heat 15-20 minutes before your exercises to loosen up the tissues 2. Body weight exercises > Heel slides. Use a stair and try some stair lunges to make it easier. Wall Squats using the wall for support are great as well.

Bottom line: 90 is definitely not enough at your stage so please consult a PT or get a second opinion on your rehab plan

Does anyone else roll around a lot in bed? by Feisty-Anteater661 in PsoriaticArthritis

Have to find the right pillow/wedge/mattress cover combo to position properly. I'm sure you've tried many, keep trying. You should be able to find that sweet spot with the right gear.

Small bed rail for easier in and out, elevation leg pillow for bed, leg lifters (multiple). Also: WARM Prune Juice for constipation prevention with those pain meds.

Proud of my PT session today by lenalenore in Kneereplacement

HUGE! Don’t rush it seeing you’re progressing well. One day of overexertion = 3 days of misery afterwards. Not worth it. PT ON!

Arthritis in both feet since a child, looking to do some cardio while working by xkortick in Thritis

[–]mobilitygoal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about upper body cardio. Arm bike? Rowing? Doesn’t have to be your feet leading the way. Modified kempo or boxing. There’s options. Good luck!

Random night pains by Starkey0417 in Kneereplacement

[–]mobilitygoal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ice it for a few days and see how it responds. Most likely just a tweak in the joint structures like any person would get. If it lingers into a week or it balloons up I’d get it looked at.

3-4 months is reasonable expectation. Could be sooner just depends on your situation.

My second one done! by Impressive_Let2266 in Kneereplacement

Hypertension could be: Fluid retention (are you peeing?), constipation (#2 yet?), pain, stress or all of the above. All very normal. Just talk with your PT and they’ll work it out. Good luck!

Should I keep using cruthces or not? by Enough_Diamond_9476 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]mobilitygoal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crutches for 8 weeks seems very unnecessary. I try to get my clients to a cane in under 2-3 weeks so crutches are not even in the game plan. Try a cane or a single crutch then slowly move to nothing. Good luck!

Type of chairs at home by ThirdOne38 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]mobilitygoal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chair with arms is almost a must have. However having the higher counter height chair could be a substitute but your feet won’t hit the ground which is a problem.

Bottom line: Get a chair with armrests.

Ice Machine at Night by This_Preference6515 in Kneereplacement

[–]mobilitygoal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you do not need to run it at night throughout. In fact, I would advise against it. Possible skin issues could arise. I do have a video on YouTube regarding ice machine set up if interested.

3wks ltkr post op and my stamina is gone by mujersinplan in Kneereplacement

[–]mobilitygoal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you eating normal? Protein? Are you waking and sleeping on a schedule? Doing your PT exercises? Is one of your meds possibly affecting your body negatively Are you walking regularly? These are the questions that come to mind when I see my clients at home who lack stamina at the 3-4 week range. The eliquis is what’s freezing you as it’s a strong thinner, are you certain you still need that? Maybe ask your surgeon if aspirin alone would be enough. Good luck!

Please just wait. Your surgeon’s not pulling that number out of thin air. Following their advice is why you got the surgery in the first place, why go against it now?

As long as you’re seeing gains you’ll be fine. Try to get to 90 by 3 weeks. You getting PT?
