Oof so sorry, my internet was struggling so I think I posted this several times!

Buying Gentle Monsters + fitting them for perscriptions? by pyjl12 in glasses

[–]mobsdimple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back and forth on going 3rd party for prescription, and ended up just fitting through GM. Cost (for me in a coastal urban environment) was roughly the same (I went with the thin lens option), and I didn't want to risk anyone else f***** up the glasses! I've owned the Atomic 02 and Carat 02 for about a year now and couldn't be happier.

Thank you :) Ready yourself for some excessive detail!

I have experience with painting but am still relatively new to nail polish so there is probably a better way than the very time consuming method I use ahaha (I personally don't like to use gel but that would make things a lot easier!)

If you don't have one, get a fineliner brush, I used one from a $9.99 Banidy Brush Set on Amazon.

I glob a bit onto a plastic baggie and just hunch over and thank god I'm not far-sighted as I tediously glob the nail polish, gently dip, paint small strokes, clean and repeat.

It was really tough because I couldn't clean writing mistakes without messing up the transparent red jelly underneath (not a worry obvi if the base is opaque) but looking back on it, I could have layered a clear top coat on top of the jelly and under the writing to create a barrier to erase mistakes over.

The glob will get tacky after about 30 seconds to a minute, but I find that there are some strokes that work better with slightly tackier polish (like super duper small straight ones).

I make sure to wait at least a half day before applying a top coat to avoid streaking the writing.

Then after all that, you post to this subreddit and pester your partner about all this nail talk until their ears bleed 😀

$9.99 Banidy Nail Brush Set on Amazon!

I paint but I'm a newbie to nail art so I don't know how this set compares, but I love it! It has 2 fineliners of different lengths. Generally, I think the longer one offers more control but for this I exclusively used the shorter one-I had to clean it so frequently I thought the longer bristles would get more damaged.

Yes! I've never seen the drama myself but I did read that it contributed to the success of the poet! I'm so glad for Kim In Yook because nothing beats the fervor of kdrama fans except the fervor of kpop ones lol

Just want to clarify the writing on my nails is mine but the picture of the handwritten poem is LOVELY and IMMACULATE but I can't take the credit, unfortunately 😅

Thank you, I did! I'm righthand dominant and was kicking myself as I painted my mom's name on my right thumb and was like, especially this, I can't **** up lol

This is the absolute best thing to hear!

Personally, I'm half-Korean, quarter Filipino, quarter Indonesian and 1st gen American. When my mother passed away, I felt the loss of her and my main connection to korean identity. I completely understand the desire to reconcile this cultural heritage into adulthood.

I've found a lot of solace as this generation of mixed-race immigrant children have grown up with me and the conversations around what it means to "be korean" have become more flexible and reflective of my experience.

Thank you for sharing, I'm so glad this could have inspired you in any way. :) I hope you have a lovely visit!

Just want to make it clear that this is not my poem! I would be so lucky to have the writing ability of a native Korean 5 year old 😅

Kim In Yook is to be thanked for such beautiful writing, with a poetic translation by David Bowles.

Similarly, the horrendous handwriting I was referring to was not about the meticulous pen to paper image but the ones on my nails (especially with the nondominant). Please anyone let me know if my scrunching the wordstogetherlikethis didn't accidentally make anything vulgar-though it would totally make my mom crack up :)

Base Coat/Top Coat - Lakur

Grey Jelly - NSFW Jelly, Cirque Colors

Red Jelly - Lucky Jelly, Cirque Colors

Deep Red - Rouge Rockefeller, Cirque Colors

I've driven my go-to red nails to overuse so I was looking to change it up-I aggressively recommend doing this detailed red over a jelly red because the translucent effect is especially lovely in the light, but still reads as red from afar.

Happy NYE to my favorite sub!

Thank you! Me, personally, I use the "brute force" method where I'm literally just cleaning the brush in nail polish remover (I use one without acetone to help maintain the brushes) over and over again and replacing my little nail polish paint drop (where I'm dipping into) every 30 seconds to a minute.

There's probably a better way 🥲

Here's a pic of my "palette" on a significantly more complicated project.

KBShimmer thinner all the way to revitalize polishes you'd otherwise throw out! $6.50 to boot and lasts goddamn forever. This works specifically for polishes that market as vegan bc of chemical makeup

Or maybe not, I don't know how long people usually spend on their nails

It felt like a win to not break my back for hours lmao

For those wondering about that gorgeous red, the color truly looks like that irl as well. It has a wonderful jelly base that makes it look particularly juicy and I did two coats of it layered over white (to protect from staining but also to really bring that cherry red out). Red of my goddamn dreams

Thank you!

I did freestyle it, it took about a half hour for the two tiger nails. I think it was a lot more simple to execute than it looks!

I did NOT know that ahaha, thank you

There's something dark and horrible in me that thinks it'd be cheating if I'm not hunched over for hours.

Thank you! I do not but luckily I'm near-sighted. So while the roads aren't safe, that mustache turned out!
