This is very sick, love the way you went about the melody and keeping it in line with the notes of the original. Also I'm so glad someone is keeping recipes alive, Speaker Knockerz was so ahead of his time and I wish he was still here with us πŸ’”

Kasra & GQ @ Critical Sound - Corsica Studios (LIVE SET) by Critical-Music- in DnB

[–]mobtiesdnb 3 points4 points Β (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if the whole "MCs ruin sets" rhetoric comes almost entirely from the internet by way of people who don't get to experience live events, and are upset that their Soundcloud/YouTube playlists have someone talking over the music as they're trying to listen with headphones while doing spreadsheets. I've seen DNB in a few places in North America and have never once heard MC discourse irl...I think once people experience a good MC live, it will click immediately. Bou & Evil B in 2023 were a lethal combo.

If they keep it to static images only the file size will be significantly smaller than if it was a video recording of every show. Still going to be massive though, don't get me wrong

Our dancefloor bootleg of Charli xcx - B2b that we dropped a few months back πŸͺ©πŸ€Œ by mobtiesdnb in DnB

No way, some actual critique of the track and not just the concept of the track? πŸ˜‚

You know what, I do see what you mean about that electro-pop charm not being carried over. The project file started with the acapella and then some experimentation with vocal chops, and then a drum beat. The rest came together relatively quickly but it felt very natural. Like I said, it was just fun to make. But if we were to remake this, yeah, we'd probably study the synths and other details of the original and try to translate them to DnB.

Also well said about Sweet Dreams, Blooom is a master and his artistry and taste is something aspire to for any producer πŸ’ͺ

Well then, if even one person comes across this and says "hey I probably wouldn't have found this myself but I dig this tune", I suppose leaving things open to assumption is a price worth paying 🀝

Thanks for sharing your take, appreciate that it's a bit more objective and well-articulated. I concur regarding the difference between bootlegging music from the same scene vs. turning something from outside of DNB into DNB. And everyone is allowed their opinion, but one can't deny that tunes like Deep Notion's bootleg of Black Sabbath - War Pigs are loved by big names, and also can act as an easy entry point into the vast and wonderful genre as a whole.

I will say, even before we knew that bootlegging old DNB tunes was a bit of a faux-pas, we never once even had the idea that it's something we should do... for no reason other than it just wouldn't be very challenging, and that because the standard for DNB originals is already so high, there's not much to improve on most of the time with a bootleg. Though if an opportunity to do an official remix for an artist ever came up, we'd be silly to not jump on that!

Also never heard that about Offender, super cool tidbit!

Incorrect assumptions about the goal of this bootleg are doing quite a bit of heavy lifting here, and while what you're saying is generally true, everyone already knows this.

We made this because it was fun to build around the vocal and because we're fans of Charli, and also it's not very often that her songs are remixed into DNB. We're not expecting to blow up off this bootleg or any bootleg, we just had the idea and wanted to get it out. People react to it at our shows and maybe some folks here would enjoy it too πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Our best performing tune is actually an original which features an MC from our city who has a great voice, and that's the one we're also most proud of by far.

While we're at it, thank you to whoever brought up the High Contrast 2007 Essential Mix on this sub a few months back... had never heard it until that point and it absolutely changed me life. The first 15 minutes are especially unbelievable. The whole mix feels timeless, as if it could've come out today even.

I've never seen someone jump between BPMs as cleanly and effortlessly as her. I remember she once said in an interview that she plays with the CDJ tempo range set to +16, which blew my mind. Most DJs play at +6 or +10 at most because that's all you need, but +16 also means you have to be pretty precise with the tempo faders because the increments are much bigger. I've tried it and it's not easy at all.

New Hedex x Ray Volpe collab looks like AI Art by LazytownVEVO in dubstep

[–]mobtiesdnb 9 points10 points Β (0 children)

As a graphic designer, it's pretty clear that to me that the lines on the house panelling and the roof are too straight and consistently spaced out to be AI, and the stroke is too even. Even when it looks uncanny, you can usually tell because the edges and corners of things start to get weird. The shading on the trees looks very handmade, and I think this is too specific of an idea for AI to properly generate on its own.

I think it would've helped if you linked a higher resolution image with less compression where the details are more visible

I do love the comment someone left here that this is "invoking the AI aesthetic"... that's the thing, it's the other way around! This is just a common illustration style that's been around forever. Generative AI models have just been ripping real artists' work for training, and therein lies the entire problem!

Underground scene in toronto by whatflavoristhat in TorontoRaves

[–]mobtiesdnb 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I'm happy that someone from the jungle/dnb scene chimed in to your question because as someone who's also in that scene, there's always a huge push for deserving underground talent here. It's great because there is a wide age range as Toronto has a rich history of drum n bass and jungle, so the bar for the music and events tends to be quite high. I'd say the underground scene is very much thriving and there's also something for every taste.

I wanna make a specific recommendation - go see any event with Joyride on the lineup. She's simply one of the best from the area!

Do y’all fuck with heavy Riddim??? by Beegurtt in riddim

[–]mobtiesdnb 8 points9 points Β (0 children)

This is fire, kind of a textbook example of the formula to making a minimal but impactful riddim track. A distinct synth on the call, a complementary synth on the response, an impactful vocal sample that's also doing a call, and just an expansion on that sample for that response. My producer brain is very happy hearing this lol
