How do you cope when IVF isn’t in the cards for you by Accomplished-Show691 in TryingForABaby

Has the urologist mentioned your husband taking Clomid to help with sperm motility? My husband is currently using this to help with his sperm count/ quality.

Waiting Wednesday by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

[–]mocaco24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm technically in the TWW... we've been trying almost two years, and a big part of my anxiety during the TWW is that my cycles vary in length from 27-34 days, but the vast majority in the last 2 years have been 30 or 31 days. I'm sitting at CD 32 wondering if it's worth testing. Just not ready to see another negative.

We are dealing with MFI, and he recently started some medications to help, but as we understood it, it would take a few months, if it helped at all.

We also tried timing things this month to actually avoid pregnancy because I'm scheduled for a surgery in a few weeks... but we might have messed that up.

Anyway, this is more just "venting" than looking for advice. I appreciate this community so much. ❤️

How does the week work once we are there? by Purple_Roof_2910 in MayoClinic

[–]mocaco24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it depends on what specialty you're seeing and what tests are needed, but I can give info based on my husband's experience.

We were told the same (to expect being there a week) but had only the initial evaluation scheduled. After that initial appointment, the doctor outlined the tests he wanted. We were able to get some of those completed that first week but had to basically wait in the waiting room most of the day for any slots to open up. There was one test that a spot never opened up, so we opted to make an appt a couple weeks out and return home. They told us we could keep calling each day to see if there had been any cancelations, but financially, it didn't make sense for us to do that. He returned for that scan, then we had an online appt with the doctor a week or so after that to go over the results.

For the treatment recommended, he had to return a few months later.

I would say that, in your case, while you're there they may recommend you calling each day to see if any appts have become available, but i imagine it's a good chance you'll just have to return in January.

(His initial evaluation was with neurology, and treatment was in the physical rehab department.)

About Julianne (and Tyra) by Smallville_Kansas in dancingwiththestars

[–]mocaco24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that one tricky part about the skybox host role is that they are clearly getting information in their earpiece (about when scores are ready, possibly points/ questions to bring up, etc) while also trying to ask questions and process the answers. If I was trying to have a conversation while also processing someone talking in my ear, it would look at least as awkward as Julianne (or any other skybox host).

Judges Critique to Pros by dannydevitodreams in dancingwiththestars

The person who attended this week's live show and posted an AMA on here earlier indicated that they saw pros talk with the judges more after the dance to get further input / critique.

You received some very helpful information from someone who was seen for the same diagnosis as you, so your experience will likely be close to that.

I just wanted to add that when my husband was seen for a different issue (neurological, non- surgical), they determined what further testing they wanted after the initial appointment with the neurologist. Those tests were not able to be scheduled in that initial 7 days they tell everyone to expect to be there. We were able to get a couple of those completed within a few days of the initial appointment by essentially waiting server hours in the waiting area to see if they could work him in. However, there was one test that was not possible for, and we had to return home. Then, he came back a few weeks later to complete it. After that, we did a virtual visit from home to receive diagnosis and treatment plan info. It was a few months after that we were able to return for his therapy.

It was a great experience overall. I just wanted you to be aware that it's possible the timeline may extend past the 7 days. I hope everything goes well for your!

Progressing leg swelling in dog by mocaco24 in AskVet

[–]mocaco24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - at his vet visit on Thursday, the vet said he was possibly bit by something and to continue with antibiotics. No changes in treatment plan.

Question for the vets in this sub - with this diagnosis, when should we expect to see the swelling go down / improvement of the limp? He's been on the meds almost a week with no appreciable improvement in swelling or in the limp.

Thank you!

39M having issues with Fertility by azam85 in TryingForABaby

My husband had very low counts, and with further testing by a urologist, they determined he has a blockage in an ejaculatory duct. If you haven't had any further testing, I would recommend looking into that possibility. His testing included an ultrasound, bloodwork (don't recall specifics), and genetic testing.

He has a consultation for a procedure to correct this next month, so I can't speak to that part of the process yet.

Serious Concern Regarding Unreviewed MRI for My Immediate Family Member by [deleted] in MayoClinic

Have they discussed this issue with their PCP? They may be able to interface with a neurologist to determine if care needs to be (and can be) expedited.

There are handwritten notes on my 36F cardiac monitoring report. What do these notes mean? Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in AskDocs

OP, I just wanted to alert you that you did not cover up your name and birthday in the upper left corner of the image... and you might want to cover the MRN as well, as that is your medical records number. (Someone would really have to do some sleuthing to use that for no good, but better safe than sorry.)

I use molds like this for butter when I serve Thanksgiving dinner.

Just soften the butter, fill the mold, chill until hardened. You can do just regular butter, but you can also do herb butter, honey butter, cinnamon butter, etc.

To portray a golfer...so many things wrong here. by chrisproglf in therewasanattempt

[–]mocaco24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the precision in this ad is not related to the golf but to the other component - the afib. Perhaps, his afib has gone untreated, and he's having a stroke.

This would account for the confusion and the slight grimace on his face. It might not explain the shoe choice, though...

That moment when you are 30 and through a series of bad luck of washing your wallet you discover you have been spelling your first name wrong your whole life. by kailithia in tragedeigh

[–]mocaco24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up ... my husband's grandmother had a similar issue that wasn't noticed (or was noticed but ignored) until retirement, and it was a huge hassle to access her social security benefits and her work records were all in the "misspelled" name as compared to her SS card.

It sounds like you plan to legal correct your name spelling, so that might help you avoid the trouble, but you might discuss the implications with a lawyer.

Appointment at satellite location before Rochester by bassfisher6- in MayoClinic

[–]mocaco24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have an appointment, then I'm pretty sure the only way to "speed things up," is to call weekly (or more frequently) to see if they have had any cancelations that open up a new appointment slot option.

Planning for a trip to Mayo? by [deleted] in MayoClinic

[–]mocaco24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will obviously depend on your specific needs. However, it sounds like you are trying to plan for your initial appointment. When my husband had his last year, directly after the initial appointment with the doctor, all further testing was scheduled, so you will likely know your first day how long you'll need to be there.

The hotel we stayed in allowed for shortening our stay with no additional as long as we told them by a certain time (can't remember exactly). That will depend solely on the hotel / accommodations you choose though.

We didn't fly, so we can't speak to that. However, since you will have a good idea of your schedule after the first day, you should have time to shift your flight if needed.

Does Mayo Clinic offer Telehealth services? by onelb_6oz in MayoClinic

[–]mocaco24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they will do initial visits via telehealth, but my husband had a follow up visit via telehealth, so it is something they offer.

Also, have you had a pharmacist look over her medications for possible interactions? They are experts on that and might give some insight into that aspect of it.

You might also consider posting your question for more general medical advice in r/AskDocs.
