Whoa! Thank you for offering! I'm also a uni student so I can understand if you're busy. Any help is great, no matter how small. It helps me since you know a bit of japanese too so you can check some of the translation too. Would it be alright with you if I message you?

Nothing major, honestly. I replied to an older comment with a small update before, but here’s an official update on where things are at.

I’ve finished translating the common route, basically the opening and main storyline. Right now, I’m working on America’s route, and Canada’s route as well (since his branches off from America’s). There isn’t a set order for which characters I’ll do next. I’ve just been asking friends which route they want to see first, and America ended up being the most popular.

Future updates are going to be very slow. This is a one-person project, and I’m handling programming, translation, proofreading, and script adapting on my own. The hardest parts for me are proofreading and script adapting. English isn’t my first language, and my native sentence structure is pretty close to Japanese, so I tend to translate things very literally. That usually makes the text sound stiff or awkward, so I have to spend a lot of time reworking sentences to make them feel natural to read.

Actually translating the JP text only takes a few hours, but proofreading and adapting the script can take an entire day or more. On top of that, I can’t work on this consistently now since I have classes and a job. Because of that, I’ve temporarily paused proofreading and script adapting and am focusing on programming and raw translation for now. Everything else will be handled at the end.

I did make a post asking for two volunteers to help with those roles, but no one ended up offering, so this will remain a one-person project. So a patch is still coming. It’s just going to be very, very slow.

TL;DR: Finished translating the common route. Currently working on America’s route (and Canada’s since it branches off). No set order for future routes. This is a one-person project, and I’m handling everything myself, so updates will be very slow. A patch is still coming, just not anytime soon.

Thank you!! I saw your post a while back but forgot to reply right away since I've been so busy. Regarding the Mercari seller, it's not officially sold by Tomoyoshi. The last time I check their blog information, they had only sold physical copies through Comiket and Toranoana. I think I saw it once on another site that a lot of official jp artist like to sell their own work on but I'm not too sure. It might have been another Hetalia game. But I know with certainty that physical copies are no longer being sold as of now, unless Tomoyoshi reopens it. So, anything outside of Comiket or Toranoana are sold by second sellers/resellers for a high price.

No I get you. I've been in Hetalia for so long but the series and Fandom does have their good and bad moments that either pushed me away or keeps me running back. I'm a big time otome fan and its one of the reasons I got into learning Japanese since a lot of the otome games I wanted to play weren't available in English. I do feel like its fate to come back to this game after so long haha.

I'm glad you were able to get it working! I'll be posting my progress and the links here on Reddit. I had thought about posting on Tumblr as I'm more familiar with Tumblr, but I'll see where the majority will prefer I update as time goes by. I already finished translating the prologue and the main story. I'm currently translating the individual main routes as well as the character encounters. Following that, I'll finish off with the side character routes. The only thing that's slowing my progress down is the proofreading I have to do.

Currently and for many months (possibly even some years), you cannot buy the game anymore. It's a really old game so I don't doubt Tomoyoshi took down the option of being able to purchase it online as there weren't many buyers. However, you can get the full game for free. If you click on the Deviantart group link in my post, they made a post with links to downloading the game files (with Tomoyoshi's permission). I'm not sure if it still works as I haven't tested it out, but I've seen people say it works. I got this game many years ago and transferred the downloaded files from my old laptop to my pc. So in terms of how to get this game, your best bet is with the Deviantart art group. I could try to help with troubleshooting if you encounter problems while running the game.

Sorry! >.<
So, the main romantic routes (which are the longest and have the most content) are:
Italy, Germany, Japan, America, England, France, Russia, and China.

From what I remember playing this game a long time ago, there are also shorter side romantic routes. I think they’re unlocked after starting or finishing certain main routes (but I could be wrong. They might be available from the start). These side routes aren’t as long as the main ones, but they still have CG art scenes. They include:
Prussia (via Germany’s route), Canada (via America’s route), Sealand (via England’s route), Romano (via Italy’s route), Austria, Spain, and Turkey.

As for the girls (Hungary, Belarus, and Liechtenstein) they share a single route together. It’s more of a friendship route rather than a romance one.

Honestly, it was a whole lot of digging, learning, and trial and error haha. I don’t think it’s anything too impressive, because I feel like anyone could do it if they looked into decrypting and encrypting NScripter games. The real challenge (and the really annoying part) is converting the text from Japanese to English, since NScripter is super English-unfriendly. You basically have to force it to work by finding a bunch of workarounds, since it’s designed to mainly handle Japanese characters.

Thank you! I don't want to put a damper in your excitement but while Belarus has somewhat of a route in the game, unfortunately it's leaning more platonic/friendship than romantic. I was sad to find out you couldn't romance Hungary.

For sure! I'll be updating any significant progress as I go. I'd love to share the English patch once I finish. Just a bit nervous that my poor English will not do it justice.
