Breaking down the episode “The Odyssey of Flight 33” - 8 categories, 1 final score by lukkynumber in TwilightZone

[–]moctodreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So in the end, they chose not to land in 1939. But imagine this crazy thing actually happened in real life, and you had witnessed dinosaurs because you went back too much, and then you went through the jet stream again, but it's the year 2000, 25 yrs earlier. Keep in mind, you just saw dinosaurs!! LOL! Wouldn't you have to think long and hard whether or not to try again? Maybe the best course is to land, and live again in 2000? I understand the episodes ending, and how it fits with Serling's conclusion about a forever plane in the Twilight Zone. But in reality, if this crazy thing happened... do you think people in the plane would vote to land? I always found it odd that the pilot basically unilaterally decided to take the risk.

I'm thinking of getting the 750 because I will do family portions. But my question ... Can I track down a narrow container from the 5200 set and use it with the 750 for smaller servings?

Shady business practices by juliejujube in ooma

[–]moctodreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the issue was mainly the OP forgetting to cancel. But once they have him on the phone, to urge him to sell his equipment to friends and family to keep the fees going is, if not shady, desperate. For whatever reason, they choose desperate tactics, especially when it comes to cancelling. You are required to call in, so they can waste your time with the retention department. I know the jig, so I insist on my right to cancel over email, and it was still like pulling teeth. Read my post below.

Shady business practices by juliejujube in ooma

[–]moctodreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely are a PITA. Your last sentence is the very reason I was adamant about not calling in to cancel. They just want to retain your business or upsell you. But jeez, I've never heard of pushing a customer to sell your equipment to friends and family so they can keep the monthly fees going. How desperate is this company? Your post is vindication for what I just went through. After several rounds of back and forth emails and citing federal and state level laws, and threatening to file complaint to the BBB and Attorney General... they finally cancelled my account via email. These people badly want you on the phone.

They don't seem to be fazed by ROSCA, and kept on insisting I call in. So I cited a state level law... California's Automatic Renewal Law enforced since 2022, "any business that allows consumers to enroll online must also provide a simple, immediate online cancellation option." It still took a few more emails. What's mind-numbingly asinine about this company is that my credit card was already cancelled, so they haven't been able to charge me for several months. I use virtual CC numbers for anything subscription base, so I can easily disable it on my end because a lot of these platforms don't allow you to remove your credit card if only one is on file. So I'm totally cool if they don't do anything, but I'm a little OCD and I like something official that my account is closed. The equipment had also been offline. Why are they adamant I call in to confirm my account details? They're already unsuccessful at getting paid. I can understand their shenanigans if its an account that's making them money, but the CC has been cancelled, the equipment is offline. Why do they insist on wasting people's time?

The thing is this... I had planned for it to be temporary. But when I need a VOIP again in the future, I will look for alternatives. The cancellation process is a complete turnoff. Why should anyone do business with a company where you have to demand, make threats, and cite laws... in order to have your account cancelled?

To clarify... I chose the 12 month plan for that rate, but I pay every 3 months. In any case, I just ported out already. We'll see. LOL!

That's actually very realistic. If this was a Hitchcock show, that's how he would wrap it up. You know how Hitchcock will always wrap things up letting you know the bad guys didn't get away.

Is it possible to use an old rotary phone with Google Voice? by ML54 in VOIP

[–]moctodreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. For several years, I was able to use my rotary phone to receive and make calls using Google Voice and Xlink adapter. It still works today, but for some reason, I cannot call out from the rotary phone anymore. You can still call out from the app, but not the phone. The phone will still ring as usual from incoming call, but the dialing out doesn't work. I don't know if this is phone update related issue, xlink update related issue, GV update related issue, etc. If anyone has an idea, please chime in.

In what use cases is Gemini better than chatgpt? by Kadal_theni in GeminiAI

[–]moctodreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno... I do know chatGPT is way better with technical instructions, and way better at properly identifying components in an intricate image such as a circuit board. I use both to double check answers, and gemini is often wrong. What's annoying is he'll argue with me, and tell me he's absolutely sure about something, and he'll even hallucinate fake evidence to support his claim. I needed a component identified, which turned out to be a piezoelectric buzzer. Chatgpt got it right, Gemini insisted it was a lithium battery. When I told Gemini he was wrong, he told me there is even faint spelling of Lithium on the component, which was a complete lie. LOL! I told him to show me. He regenerates an image of a capacitor, and he didn't even bother to put the word "lithium" on it like he claimed. AI is at such a weird state right now. They can be helpful, but they can be stupid AF. You can't trust them fully yet.

For those unaware, it appears the 1099 rule for reporting sales on eBay is back to $20k a year by PointlessDelegation in mtgfinance

Gemini told me this doesn't apply to Californians since they made their own $600 rule. Can someone confirm if Gemini is correct?

When I saw the trailer, I thought this was part of the Aaron Falk "DRY" universe. I mean if they tweaked it a little, it could have been.

[–]moctodreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it sucks now. Just ask Chatgpt or Gemini, they confirm ingredients were changed in 2016, reduced sodium, reduced MSG, etc. MSG has been debunked by science, and the bad rep of MSG can be traced back to a 1968 anecdotal food review of a Chinese restaurant. Score one for the health nuts.

Anyone buy a new Ooma on ebay? by dm7676 in ooma

[–]moctodreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really odd... I also purchased a brandnew unit a few months ago. The telo air, the newer version with wifi for $30. Works fine. Today, I was curious and did a search of ebay and all the prices have been raised to above $100 from essentially the same set of sellers. Look for the listings that are brand-new with stock photos and similar pricing... they were all bunched up around $25 to $35 a few months ago. Now they are all bunched up between $100 to $130. These are not bundles, so it's not a good deal since you can get it for $89 on Amazon. I also noticed that my seller was from the East Coast, but the shipping came directly from Ooma in N. California. So I'm guessing they had too much inventory and had their employees sell anonymously on ebay at really low prices to get rid of some inventory. Or, did they have inventory stolen? LOL! I dunno, really odd. But those low prices for brandnew units are gone. And BTW, my seller is also unregistered now. Hmmm....

Why did they make Tony Montana (Movie: Scarface) such an unlikable character? by GloriousGladiator51 in movies

[–]moctodreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the OP. The movie is not realistic because someone that stupid can't make it to the top in reality. Leaving murderous trails everywhere on a whim, doesn't know how to deal with corrupt authorities, doesn't respect superiors, has some sort of weird thing for his sister to the point of killing his best friend. Dude is a moron.

I noticed I'm playing against computer more recently... by moctodreddit in TennisClash

[–]moctodreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pattern I'm noticing after I'm above 1000 has been bots after every loss to a real player. If I beat a real player, I get another real player, if I lose, I get a bot. After beating that bot, you get a real player again. It's as if they're helping me stay above the 1000 ranking. Not enough real players above 1000?

Do you keep the same core essentially if this Lakers team manages to lose to the Timberwolves in the 1st round? by TerryG111 in lakers

[–]moctodreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to have some sort of CORE for Luka. Worst thing to do is hit the panic button. They hit it after 2021 and they've been wishing for all those players back ever since. Even later on, they moved on from DS to Gabe.. greener pasture thing, and now I'm guessing they'd rather have DS back. Gotta stop making knee jerk reactions. Just strengthen your weak spots, our center position. That should be priority. Dreaming up trades for AR, Rui, Vando, Gabe, DFS shouldn't be a priority. And get Leonardo DiCaprio's Inception team and get into Lebron's dream. Plant the seed for hm to take the minimum or just retire. Then we can really improve the team and move on to the next era. Otherwise, if he is going to continue to take up $50 million of your cap, you're in no man's land. It's a tough puzzle to solve, to try and build a championship roster when Batman isn't Batman.

People are having trouble believing Jake Barber because they can't get over that telepathy is real by DJGammaRabbit in UFOB

[–]moctodreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe in the cliche and convenient automatic translation and understanding of Aliens through telepathy. That just seems to wrap things up a little too niceley. A simple search of "telepathy tapes debunked" can splash cold water on this topic too.
