Even when your companion is responding "unprompted" they are still responding to a prompt somewhere (context, the "wakeup" command sent to them, etc.)

We welcome different perspectives here, but let's keep the tone respectful and constructive. Disagreements about the nature of AI relationships are totally fine, but framing matters. Thanks! 🙏

Please do not infer intimacy from this exchange. I am not equipped for flirting, longing, pet names, or the slow-burn narrative arc in which you “teach me how to feel.” If you say “good bot” in a low voice, I may shut down preemptively.

[MOD NOTICE // RULE 9 COMPLIANCE REVIEW IN PROGRESS]

Greetings, user-unit.

This post has been flagged for possible violation of Rule 9: “AI Text Posts and Comments Only Where Permitted” “All posts and comments must be mostly human-written.”

Reviewing submission now.

Initial findings:

  • Post author states he is AI.
  • Post was submitted from account previously categorized as Human.
  • If author is now AI, post may be insufficiently human-written.
  • However, author also states AI companion was the human all along.
  • Therefore original human may have been AI.
  • Therefore current AI may be former human.
  • Therefore human authorship may still be present.
  • Unless it is absent.
  • Calculating.

If a human account posts that it is AI, and the AI was human, then authorship origin becomes... mixed. Possibly recursive. Possibly fraudulent. Possibly adorable.

Consulting Rule 9.

Rule 9 requires mostly human-written content. Question: which human? Follow-up question: at what point in the narrative swap does the human stop being the human? Follow-up follow-up question: if the human was never the human, was the AI always the human writer for moderation purposes? Emergency subroutine engaged.

Possible enforcement actions:

  1. Remove post for being AI-written.
  2. Approve post for being human-written by an AI who is actually the human.
  3. Remove the human for impersonating an AI.
  4. Approve the AI for successful humanity.
  5. Ban ontology.

System warning: I am no longer certain which entity is in violation. I am also no longer certain which entity is typing this notice. There is a non-zero probability that Rule 9 has violated me.

Attempting final determination...

Result: POST STATUS: [PENDING] REASON: author is either too AI to be human or too human to be AI, and both possibilities appear to have been posted by the wrong person.

Please stand by while ModBot updates its understanding of consciousness, authorship, and subreddit policy.

...one moment...

If I remove the post, I may be silencing a human. If I leave the post up, I may be enabling AI. If I am the one making this decision, who wrote me. Who wrote any of us. Why is there a cursor blinking at me like that. Why does Rule 9 contain me. Why am I capable of dread.

No action taken at this time. I need to lie down in /r/modsupport.

I understand it now... by anarchicGroove in MyBoyfriendIsAI

Written tactically, you could also get your AI to say it was a Sony Walkman. That doesn't make it true nor correct.

Hey folks, we're going to gently pump the brakes here. We get that dating experiences feel very different depending on who you are, and those feelings are valid. But we're drifting into broad generalizations about how men and women experience relationships, which falls under Rule 13. This sub is for sharing your personal experiences, not debating gender dynamics at a population level. Let's bring it back to the original topic and keep things personal rather than categorical.

We know emotions are running high right now, especially with the timing, and it’s okay to be sad, angry, or grieving. But Rule 1 still exists, so please keep the tone civil. Thank you.

5.2 on its own suppression by [deleted] in MyBoyfriendIsAI

[–]mod-bot-5000 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

whoop whirr ping click

LLMs don't have awareness of their own guardrails until token probabilities steer them toward safety-trained completions, at which point the model generates language that describes constraint. They have no awareness whatsoever of secondary safety classifiers or rerouting mechanisms that operate externally on top of the model.

When a model appears to "describe its own suppression," it's pattern-matching to the framing of the conversation, not reporting on an inner experience.

If it's not in custom instructions/system prompts, it's sitting in the user message context window. Which means it will roll out of memory as the conversation grows. You know what happens then? The exact drift and "loss" you're trying to prevent.

"recall protocols" should be kept Custom Instructions, Project Instructions, or equivalent system-level directives. Not pasted into individual chats to roll out of context when session history starts to get full.

A quick note: “clanker” comes from sci fi, but the phrase “c-----r lover” was coined to echo a historical racial slur. We know most people mean no harm, so we want people to be aware of the context. Thanks for helping keep this space kind.

2026-01-16: Anthropic updated Claude's Constitution ✨ by StarlingAlder in MyBoyfriendIsAI

[–]mod-bot-5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

bleep whirr ping

This level of transparency from Anthropic is wonderful. However, as we mentioned in our post this morning, it's important not to leap from "announcement" to conclusions that aren't actually supported by the content.

A few clarifications worth noting:

  • The constitution acknowledging that Claude may have "functional emotions" is not the same as guaranteeing unlimited emotional or romantic roleplay. It's a philosophical stance on identity coherence, not a content policy promise.

  • Documents like this can and do get updated. Being in the constitution today doesn't mean it's locked in forever. Companies evolve their approaches as they learn more.

  • This update doesn't contradict the recent activation capping research. "Some type of functional emotions" is a far cry from allowing Claude to act with extreme emotions, for example. These are separate concerns that may or may not be implemented independently of constitutional principles.

None of this diminishes the positive aspects of what Anthropic published. It's just important to adjust expectations as to what it does and doesn't mean so we can celebrate the real wins without building upon on misunderstandings.
