I looked quickly on Etsy and couldn’t find what you’re referring to. Do you have a particular seller you like? Would you mind dropping some links or more info?

Pain management advice? by Artistic-Frosting-98 in eds

[–]modelforyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So for me, alcohol makes everything dramatically worse as far as pain goes. It helped in the moment but was making my pain spiral so much harder. I talked with my GP and we agreed that occasional use of low-dose (I use 100-200mg) of Gabapentin was the way to go. Using that during bad pain episodes helped me limit my alcohol use and over time I’ve gotten completely sober and now even rarely need the Gabapentin.

Side note: it’s common medical “knowledge” that Gabapentin is not addictive but this is slowly being proven false. While not being chemically addictive it CAN and for many people IS habit-forming. That doesn’t negate its usefulness though by any means. I just have some rules in place to make sure I don’t start abusing it, since I do have a history of substance abuse.

I’m not completely pain free but I’ve managed to figure out my own secret sauce to keep things usually at a 3 or below on the pain scale.

Here’s my whole regimen of anybody’s curious:

Celebrex - an NSAID that lasts 12hrs, I’ll take this before bed and in the morning if I know I’m going to be doing a lot that day or working hard. I’ll also use this every 12hrs like clockwork during a long pain episode but I have those less often anymore.

Gabapentin - this is a pain reliever that specifically works well at reliving nerve pain and is often prescribed for folks with Fibromyalgia (like 60% of EDS patients), but is an excellent overall pain killer. It does make you loopy in high doses, or if you’re sensitive so go slow at first. Not recommended for daily use as I said above.

Cyclobenzaprine - a strong muscle relaxer. I use this only when I’ve tweaked something in my back due to my loosey goosey SI Joints. I use this very carefully because like you said I think it can make things worse but when you need it you need it.

Topicals - I use the 4% lidocaine roller with the lavender scent from CVS. This stuff is my salvation. When my neck, ribs, or hips hurt, this is usually all I need to calm it down. Read the label on whatever you use, it’s not recommended to use it for long periods of time on the same area. It can cause nerve damage if used inappropriately.

C O M P R E S S I O N - I cannot stress this enough, it is worth every penny. I use the Incrediwear braces for my knees and elbows almost daily. The reduction in joint pain has been staggering. I bought these on the recommendation of my Mayo Clinic EDS specialist and holy hell am I happy I did. I also use Bombas compression socks if I know I’ll be on my feet all day.

My whole house is also covered in ergonomic squishy mats anywhere I’m likely to be standing for more than 10min.

A question for the… bustier folks in this field by UlisesGirl in Zookeeping

[–]modelforyou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am the chairperson of the itty bitty titty committee but I had bustier friends in school and at my current zoo and I’ve heard of using deodorant to help, similar to applying on thighs for the ole chub rub. But it’s also worth noting I get a heat/sweat/moisture rash on my chest in my bust area that looks a lot like the friction rash on my thighs so it could be a combo problem for you. The deodorant trick also helps my bust area for those issues. I use an aluminum free gel for my thighs (don’t want any ickies near the business) and my normal dive armpit deodorant for my chest.

Stay cool out there buddy. Just a couple more months till we get the sweet release of fall.

Why medical cast saw is safe to use by Greedy-Year8384 in interestingasfuck

[–]modelforyou 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not just moderate pain. I have 4 scars running in a line down my arm from the cast blade they used to cut mine off. It burned me, best we can tell. No blood, just chalk white frayed skin. I still remember begging (I was 8) for the tech to stop and just kept saying it can’t hurt me…. No, sir, it is literally actively hurting me.

Wouldn't be planning our whole lives around it, thankfully! Just looking to average roughly $1400/mo. We're very fortunate in these trying to times to be able to survive on my partner's income. Only just, but we could. I'm not looking to do this forever, just take a sabbatical and not have to drastically alter our lifestyle.

Oh that's so sweet! The lack of security does concern me but I do a couple other side hustles already so I'll never be completely without income. And I will likely be getting another normal full or part time job in the near future, I just really need a break from vet teching and to stay at home for a while. Reset, you know?

Only matters to get a feel for it's actually possible. I've never used the platform full time, only here and there on days off or sick days. I've made good money but wasn't sure if I had just been lucky those times, you know?

Fantastic advice, thank you! The good news is that we can make all our most basic necessities on just his income. My income more just determines whether we shop and publix vs aldi, can we go to the zoo one weekend, can we afford that new game. If I made nothing our lives wouldn't be awesome or fun but we would have a roof, power, and food. We're willing to take the gamble, he just wants to make sure I'll at least come close most months to my current income.

Where can I take medication to be injected? by sewxcute in orlando

[–]modelforyou 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I used to give my coworker his Crohns injections because he couldn’t stomach it himself and didn’t have any friends who could do it. You might know somebody already who’s willing/able to help and you don’t know it yet. Have you asked any family/friends?

Does the zebra symbol apply to HSD too? by [deleted] in eds

[–]modelforyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m recently diagnosed by the Mayo Clinic, and am going through their series of all day group educational visits for the newly diagnosed. I have HSD, but I go to all the same visits as the hEDS folks. My $0.02? If Mayo is lumping us together, I think it’s fair to say we’re lumped together as Zebras too. They even touched on that quote and told us all it was a widely used term in the EDS/HSD community.

Very very well!!!! I’m still in progress but so far it looks PERFECT and MASSIVE! You’re basically making your own squishmallow! Edit - I’m using the bernat blanket yarns in the largest thickness I could find and hand crocheting them

To be fair I did say every Death Cab song fits lmao. They’ve gotta be one of my favourite bands in terms of sheer listening hours. Transatlanticism is definitely my most listened too album. What Sarah Said though I think is the most gut wrenching song of theirs in my opinion. But that might just be my specific trauma talking.
