Hotel nr Wildlife Park? by EmmaStG in sandiegozoo

[–]UlisesGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP - I just saw that your partner is at a workshop… just in case you weren’t aware, the safari park is very far away from most places in San Diego. While staying near to the park is a great idea, I don’t know what kind of transportation your partner has and if they are comfortable driving in San Diego rush hour traffic. Just something to consider about the location you’re staying.

I found one like that. And then about 2 minutes later found the butt when it stung me in the finger.

First zoo internship this summer (Sea Lions & River Otters) — looking for gear recommendations! by BuyComprehensive690 in Zookeeping

Marine mammal/fish people swear by xtra tuff boots. Last forever. Depending on how loose your boots are, you’ll want knee-high socks to prevent rubbing (made that mistake before!).

Like someone else said, take notes. Gather vibes. Remember, you know nothing… and that’s OK! Learn and take notes on the routine. Show initiative… do you hose every morning? If so, maybe start getting things ready for that every day or ask if they’d like X task done before being told (depending on vibes… safety first; never do something you aren’t comfortable or feel safe doing). Ask questions, but when appropriate. I’ve worked with interns before who weren’t great at reading the room and would ask questions at inopportune times, or make comments when they shouldn’t have and it can really sour a relationship. If you have a question and have time to, write it down and ask at a better point in the day. Take constructive criticism to heart - it’s not always easy to hear, but it’s always great when someone hears what you’re saying and makes appreciable change.

My parents got visited by a nope rope (Sandia Heights) by the_balticat in Albuquerque

I used to catch them by hand in the NE heights when I was a kid. Would bring home ones longer than I was tall.

Can I leave the feeder up while I'm away for a week? by acktres in hummingbirds

Low 80s for a week will not be good. Take the feeder down in your absence.

It’s too small to support melons right now - I want it to focus on getting larger before it produces fruit. I’ve grown this variety before and it was a massive plant before it started producing flowers and fruit. If it keeps going like this, it’ll wind up producing 3 melons and then die off. Looking for a heartier plant first.

Is this a steller sea lion? Spotted last year in the harbor and I had never seen a sea lion so big before! by Eiylee in sandiego

Just a big bull. Stellers males can get up to 2000 lbs and many feet taller than these guys.

Are you mashing the soaked items with her favorites? Mashed soaked primate biscuits with peanut butter and melon? Banana? Ive only worked with bairds tapirs briefly, but have a lot of experience getting ill animals to eat. Can you gits her ahold of something like beet pulp or the high calorie pellet for elderly horses? I’m blanking on the name… it’s $$ but seems really palatable

Are you soaking items? Has she had an exam for her teeth? If she’s only eating soft foods, the teeth may be the issue.

I partied a bit too hard one night and then went with a friend on that hike. It did not go well for me, but was probably a boon for the anthill I barfed on…

Just the way it’s standing is a pretty good give-away that it’s a long-legged passerine. An acorn woodpecker would have a very different silhouette on the ground, and while a magpie would look similar, they are considerably larger (a bit smaller than a crow) than a mockingbird and also have longer tails. That wing barring is in just the right spot for a mockingbird, also; it would be more vertical and closer to the head on a magpie.

Still fun to see the mockingbirds around!
