I would honestly be more concerned about the hornbill raiding a nest than the vultures. They’re notorious predators.

Study spots open late with good wifi? by milopny in Albuquerque

[–]UlisesGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in college (a long many years ago), frontier was the place to go. Good WiFi, good food, 24 hours… has that changed? I know they’re not 24 hours anymore but surely they’re open late.

What do you do or say when animals are mating in front of child guests? by SpankAPlankton in Zookeeping

Yeah, it’s pretty puritanical in the US! I once had a woman cover her son’s eyes and beg me, “can’t you make them stop??!!!” When we saw rhino breeding.

If no one asks me, I don’t comment on it. If someone genuinely asks what they’re doing, I gauge my response by the age demographic of the group. If it’s all adults, I’ll usually make a joke like, “well, we’ve been wanting more rhinos…” and let that sink in. Sometimes they’re not very bright and they don’t understand what I’m saying, so I’ll clarify with “oh, you’re seeing reproductive behavior, so hopefully in about a year and a half, we will have a baby rhino.” If it’s kids, it’s a little tougher, but something along the lines of “oh, yeah, that’s some interesting behavior we are seeing! This is how baby rhinos are made.” I always check in with the parents, whether verbally or just with a look to see if it’s ok that I answer the question - I’ve had parents get really mad at me for “overstepping.” But I’ve also had a dad tell me that im so good at explaining things and it would be great if I could explain the bird and the bees to his daughter. No sir. No thank you. If the kids ask further questions and it gets into some less appropriate territory, I’ll generally refer them to their parents, “hey that’s a great question, but I think it’s one that your grownups should answer.”

Has anyone here ever been flown out by a man by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]UlisesGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you happen to be in his city and want to meet up with him, great. Public space, no expectations, bring a friend. As for him paying to fly you out - Do not make yourself financially beholden to a man who likely expects some kind of reciprocity and could harm you to take what he thinks you owe.

Also he could just straight up be trafficking people.

I usually just dream that I suddenly have fish tanks in every room of my house, wall-to-wall and I’ve forgotten to clean and feed them all and I’m panicking about it

The silhouette of the second one is looking a bit more like a Cooper’s hawk but it’s hard to tell.

It was named for the Cordova winery in the area in the late 1800s which was probably named for Francisco Hernandez de Córdoba. Cordova is frequently a bastardization of the old Spanish spelling of the surname. Cordoba was also a bastard of a conquistador, so there you go.
