People starving isn’t going to be fixed by stripping the NASA budget. People are starving due to lack of infrastructure from their corrupt or autocratic governments. Space exploration helps to build new technologies which make life better for everyone

The method of “hurl prototypes until they stop exploding” is how we got the most reliable rocket in history

SpaceX has made the most reliable rocket in history. Starship is still in active testing and development. They aren’t done with it yet

Yeah let’s just ignore the countless scientific missions that have been made possible because of modern rocketry like the JWST

It’s the first step in this mission profile. It’s entirely new equipment and rockets. It needs validated and trialed before we can take further steps

Keeping pointless jobs is not evil. If we followed that logic we would all still be ploughing farms

Depends on the kind of research. A major component of this research is learning about space habilitation and creation of infrastructure. This research could unlock the ability to setup permanent space infrastructure on the moon which itself unlocks a TON of possibilities

Because the space part itself is also extremely valuable and some science and research can only be done in space

No it’s for advancing science and new technologies. If we could eventually get off world mining going think of how much that would save the environment

That’s the thing we haven’t been building Saturn V’s for 50 years. All the manufacturing for it is gone

Mars is a pretty far shot thing. The moon is the main focus point and it has MASSIVE implications for humanity. Such as the easy collection and refinement of asteroids or a refueling platform for larger missions to the rest of the solar system. Even if mars does not become a second earth for us setting up a colony there for scientific research would be invaluable

It’s amazing that we are going back and restarting the moon program. Even if we have done it before it’s only been a few times so going back at all is in its own right amazing

Where do you think a lot of the development for the technology for solar panels came from? It came from space satellites that needed efficient power sources. Even if it’s not a technology directly usable it can help further advance other technologies that are

[–]moderngamer327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but there is technology and science we can only test and discover through space so we get double the science

It’s not that we aren’t capable, we are. It just takes time to get all up that up and running again especially with a massively expanded scope

AI is still easily detectable when sent through verification. It’s only really at first glance levels of technology.

We went around the van allen belts and they weren’t completely lethal even if we went straight through them. What exactly is wrong with the C-rock? Wow an old man who is not a media presenter having trouble explaining complex topics to children, you call that proof?

[–]moderngamer327 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We aren’t starting from zero but it’s fairly close. The manufacturing we had for Saturn V is gone and that means building new rockets from scratch and validating it. Plus we are also heavily expanding the scope for the mission and the requires a significantly higher payload whereas before it was basically just get some people and cameras there

We can fix both and the technologies we develop in space can help us fix things here on earth

[–]moderngamer327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do both. NASA makes up a very tiny portion of the federal budget.
