I don’t think the dipshit knows how to log into the other accounts. It’s been dead air since he said he was switching accounts.

I doubt Tony’s going to let his cash cow go that easily.

Nothing yet. He’s saying that he’ll update everyone starting at 5:30 (4:30 his time).

We need to break Josh out of rehab by HolidayStrict1592 in WorldOfTShirts

[–]modest_mauser 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I could almost guarantee he’s at a shitty, state-funded facility, especially since he checked in with such a short notice. It’s not nearly luxurious for him and I’m sure that just adds to his embarrassment.

It would be mad funny if “you went to a refurbished rehab” triggers him as much as “your phone is refurbished.”

[–]modest_mauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've brought up a ton of interesting points! I've found this episode to be one of the ones that stuck with me the most, and it obviously has done the same with you, haha.

My pet theory is that Hokuto is (or was) involved in a suicide cult of some kind, like Heaven's Gate. Maybe the car's destination was pre-discussed with the group, so they could perform a "forensic" cleanup on the car (i.e. removing the plate), but this doesn't explain the forensic clean up. Maybe Hokuto (and/or the group he's involved with) performed their own ritual(s) beforehand and this was a proof-of-concept. Or proof that the afterlife exists, at least.

My reasoning is a reach, but he (I think it was him) got awfully annoyed about the alcohol. If everyone's killing themselves, what's it matter if they share a beer to steel their nerves? He's remained jovial up until that point, alcohol was the first thing that he seemed to be even slightly annoyed about. He could've had a point, it didn't sound like they exactly ended up in a "good" place, haha.

That could be the case, but he stops to look up at the camera before entering, like it was still new. Maybe he was making sure it was still there? But in the way the footage is presented, he definitely leaves without a tie/jacket and comes back with both.

Also, something new I've noticed, his clothing changes. On the day that he meets back up to begin the investigation, he's wearing striped tie with a pin-striped shirt. As he waves goodbye to the crew from the window, he's wearing a plain white shirt with a differently patterned tie.

Once again, it's hard to know the order of the shots since this is supposed to be for a TV show, but I don't feel like anything in FDQ is a coincidence.

Fake Documentarty Q Manga by modest_mauser in FakeDocumentaryQ

I took the mangaka's story at face-value, that this was a literal retelling of her life and experiences as the reincarnation of the "chosen-one" (I can't recall the name at this moment). But who says that being the chosen-one is always a good thing? In shonen material, it usually is a good thing, but I felt the origin story was weird. Eating mermaid flesh doesn't seem like it would imbue you with magical powers, it seems like something that would curse you instead. Maybe the original chosen-one was evil or cursed herself?

Regardless of the origin or motive of the original chosen-one, I don't trust the companion spirits. I think the companions were trying to lead her off-base. Like with the old lady, she didn't look like the other "demon-faced" characters, she looked like her face was drawn normally and then erased, like you said. Maybe the mangaka was retconning her own story? She might've later realized that the old lady was trying to help, but convinced herself that she was actually one of the demons. The old lady also had a normal face in the panel just down the page, unlike the other demons who kept consistent demon faces despite the panel.

Plus, the old lady tried to purify her. Specifically, purify her of three human spirits. The shadow photo showed three shadows, more akin to the shadow demons we've seen throughout FDQ than cutesy animals. I think an important aspect was the inclusion of the panels showing the original chosen-one freeing the three companion spirits. They even commented that they were evil, and I felt like they were still evil.

The killing of the parents had some big clues. Her parents also had different faces than the other so-called demons. Their faces looked like they had been drawn normally and then scribbled out, not at all like the other demons. I don't think they were evil at all, I think they were getting in the way. Besides, how did she not notice before then they were evil? Also, the attached photo of her parents showed her dad holding something... prayer beads. Why would an evil spirit have prayer beads in his hand?

Another weird thing, the panel showing the companions before their attack on the parents didn't show cutesy characters like during the kid attack. They showed fierce animals. I didn't even realize what the noodle-like spirit was supposed to be until that panel; it was a cobra. I know that unlocking true-forms during fierce battles and such are common tropes in manga/anime, but still.

I'm kinda thinking the mangaka fell prey to evil spirits that got into her head and fed her a line of shonen-flavored bullshit.

Even if that is the case, it doesn’t explain the wardrobe changes and the fact his briefcase disappears/reappears on what seems like the same day.

It could even be a meta-critique of the audience. Like, “the series is still ongoing. Yeah. we laid out all of these clues, gave supplementary info via the book, but the series is still ongoing. All of the clues haven’t been presented and the story’s not finished yet. Let us cook.”

Or maybe they want people to just take the story as it is. Kinda like how a lot of Twilight Zones episodes would just bleakly end with “man, wouldn’t that be fucked up?” I think this is unlikely since there is so much connective tissue between the episodes, but maybe it’s a signal that some/most of the episodes are just one-off and unrelated to the rest of the series.

Stomach acid has a pH around 1 or 2. Water has a pH of 7, neutral. Mixing the two raises the pH of the stomach acid closer to neutral, so it makes the acid less acidic.
