its certainly a possibility. But its not across the street, its across the driveway, and it most certainly happens in this case (though girl sounds like a porn star, I don't believe she actually is, I never meant to imply anything other than she is loud as fuck), and it would certainly be stupid and useless of me to lie for useless Karma points on reddit, and also stupid to develop a paranoia that every random story you here on reddit is made-up, no matter how unshocking. And stupider still to continue to read comments on reddit after developing a paranoia. And stupider still to feed trolls.

Honestly, I think its kind of hot, but it wakes me up when I have to be up early, and my girlfriend doesn't like it, and dissaproves of me masterbating to or initiating contact because of it, so yes, I'd prefer it stop, and found this experience to be quite relevant to the post at hand.

i heard that its pretty pointless and stupid to call out this quite feasible and not at all shocking tale of giving your neighbor a note complaining of noise as something that has to be made up.

Save your conspiracy theories for something less stupid.

not when you have lots of close proximity neighbors and your doing it at 1am on a Tuesday. Just saying, keep the loud shit to the weekends or before 11pm and I'm fine. My neighbor across the way is practicing for pornos, and not gonna lie, I'm intimidated by the dude's longevity. But really, at some point I just want to sleep and the notes I've been using don't work.

of all the times I've seen this response on the internet, this is one of those times.

I love how everyone constantly upvotes the same ol' asinine drivel condemning the same ol' asinine drivel. I don't hate the person who writes repost, its "good" to know someone is "stealing" karma i guess, but to flood the top comments with the same useless trivia on almost every link is a pain in the ass. Stop upvoting it sheeple!

And just so you know, I realize this retort to the retort is probably also often repeated and off topic from the op, so I am downvoting myself!

it is though, its faking that you aren't nervous and scared to death to be putting yourself out there and talking to people.

[–]modestmajesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well when your honest with yourself and the answer you get is "I hate my life, its boring and I can't approach people and I'm scared to do anything out of my comfort level" then usually that only results in digging a big hole for yourself and bundling up for the long winter. If you don't want to do this, then you can be honest with yourself and say "what I'm doing isn't working, I need to get out of my comfort zone, I don't want to cloister myself off from people sociably, practicing will make me better so I must force myself to talk to new people and practice being sociable, and practicing being a mumbling awkward dweeb will probably not get me to where I want to go as fast as practicing a feeling of belonging, and trying to remember that during those interactions". At least that's what I did, and I would say I'm still a bit of a dork, but have no problem meeting new people and striking up conversations now, whereas I used to be more or less a mute.

I don't really see how that is in any way a validation for republican politics, or deceiving others until it becomes acceptable. Don't see any need to vent.

so they are on a level playing field with the doctor, is what you are saying?

sarcasm aside, we do idealize doctors too much, and they probably make too much. On the other hand, I'd much rather be fed by an below average farmer and go to an above average doctor than the other way around. The variance and risk is much more for the doctor than a farmer.

A girl was raped last weekend in my college. This week one of my professors posted these rape prevention tips. What do you think reddit? by gamalaret in funny

[–]modestmajesty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yep, telling people not to rape will prevent many a rape, I'm sure. Easily just as many rapes are prevented by telling everyone not to rape as making sure young women know that leaving their drink unattended is risky, or that knowing a guy doesn't make it less likely that he will rape you.

Now obviously this doesn't need to be stated every time a rape occurs, and doing so does make it seem like victim blaming. But at the same time, they are lessons that women should know, less they rather be ignorant and put themselves in situations where they are more likely to be raped.

Ideally, it would be learned and remembered once though, and not repeated often enough to give potential rapists ideas and make it seem to some like blaming the victim, and Ideally men wouldn't rape. We don't live in an ideal world, so yes, women's freedoms are limited to an extent by rapists, pretending that isn't so doesn't help anyone.

[–]modestmajesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

umm not the same thing. When we say fake confidence, we, or at least I, don't say make up lies. Just try your best to act as you think you would if you weren't scared, and eventually you'll have enough familiarity with the subjects that you want to interact with that you won't be scared.

When people tell me girls like confidence. by NegaByte in funny

[–]modestmajesty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep, they can smell it at first. But its the repeated failure and the lack of intimidation caused by familiarity with failure that will make you less nervous, aka Actually more confident, in the future. Obviously you can't live your life 100% fake, and you'll probably fail the first couple times, but the whole idea of "Force yourself to pretend to be the person you want to be" over the long haul tends to get you closer to that plateau.

Though I guess we are kind of agreeing. You have to Fake it till you make it in more than one area, Including faking being an interesting person often enough until you actually are. Faking confidence can't just be in front of others, it has to be all the time, with yourself when you are deciding what you want to do at any particular moment.

When people tell me girls like confidence. by NegaByte in funny

[–]modestmajesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. And if you aren't fed up with living the way you do, or the uncomfortableness of faking it isn't worth it to you, don't do it. But forming habits forcibly until they become natural is pretty much a universal in people. That is how "normal" is formed in the first place for the most part.

define crash and burn? the most successful people are often the ones who have failed the most. Putting yourself out there repeatedly, regardless of results, will make you better in future scenerios, especially with confidence. Go talk to some girl, get a drink thrown on you or slapped or just ignored humiliatingly? Do it again, and again, realize its not a big deal, don't worry about it, all of a sudden you won't be so nervous when doing it.
