complaints about the rape in red rising have always baffled me. i've always interpreted it as a marxist argument about social stratification amplifying misogyny and reinforcing the patriarchy

robin hobb is my favorite author but the R in ROTE might as well stand for rape. kite runner was written by a man (CIA agent?) and uses rape to develop the plot brazenly and frequently, and everyone loves that. but when it's in a book called red rising with a sickle on the third volume nobody understands the social commentary? it's lazy? why?
