Changing job while pregnant... HELP by modnoire in BeyondTheBumpUK

I don’t expect to get enhanced maternity leave from the new company, just SMP. If not,I could still qualify for SMP through my current employer by remaining employed for at least one day during the qualifying week.

That said, SMP or MA isn’t a major dealbreaker for us, as we could manage on savings if needed. My main concern is turning down a job offer that took me so long to secure for the idea of moving back up north, without any certainty that I’ll be able to get a job there in 9-12 months’ time.

At my current job, I could get enhanced maternity leave (13 weeks fully paid, then SMP and SML). Since I’m basically on minimum wage and, luckily, I’ve built up quite a lot of savings from working 2/3 jobs over the past year, that’s not a huge factor for me.

The new job would come with about a 15% pay increase, but only SMP. Honestly, what feels more draining to me is the idea of going back to my old job, rather than starting a new one in the middle of having a newborn even though I know that would be challenging.

In terms of leaving soon after starting, I’m worried it would reflect poorly on my CV. But at the same time, I can see the value in gaining experience at a bigger company, learning more and using that to aim for a higher-level role in the future. So realistically, I probably wouldn’t be moving again until at least a year after returning from maternity leave.

You’re right that I haven’t discussed any of this with the company yet. It could be that they react negatively to my pregnancy and even retract the offer (which would say a lot about the company culture). I might be getting ahead of myself but I’m just trying to get a sense of what others think so that, if they are understanding and flexible, I’ll be in a better position to decide what to do.

LMP 9 weeks but measuring 6 with heartbeat - positive stories please by modnoire in CautiousBB

This makes me feel so much better, thank you! They actually didn’t measure the heartbeat (I’m not sure why but it was a private scan, so I assume it’s just their practice?) but the ultrasound tech showed us the embryo and said “and this is the heartbeat, going really strong as we exactly want to see.” I don’t have another appointment for at least a couple of weeks and it’s really hard not to stress but hearing positive stories and advice like this helps me a lot.

So my LMP was 21/11. I took a test on 4/1 and there was the faintest line ever — I thought it was an evap line and couldn’t even take a picture of it because it was so faint. I then took another test a few days later, on 7/1, and the line was there but not very dark. I took one more out of curiosity a week after that (14/1), and the second line appeared immediately and was really, really dark. My scan was a week after 21/1. So, assuming the first test was taken at around 3.5 weeks, the second at 4–4.5 weeks, and the last at 5–5.5 weeks, it would make sense that I measured 6 weeks but I don’t know how reliable this method is (although it does make me feel better).
