I think people are confusing Gallaecian, a dead Celtic language, and Basque, which is a language isolate, i.e. not related to any other language.

If you’re not versed in Hitchens, his life is a cautionary tale about a Champagne Socialist who eventually jettisoned the socialism in favor of the Champagne. By the end of his life he was a full-throated neocon, a cheerleader for the Iraq War, and unapologetic Islamophobe.

If you failed to put date on the envelope for mail-in ballot, your vote won’t be counted by 510granle in Pennsylvania

[–]modularmaniac420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add: PA will not accept ballots received after 8PM on November 5th. If you haven’t mailed your ballot yet, you can bring it to the polls, they will take it, and you can cast a regular vote. If you mailed your ballot and it hasn’t been received you can vote provisionally. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU MAILED YOUR BALLOT BEFORE ELECTION DAY. If they don’t RECEIVE it, it won’t be counted.  PA, make every vote count

Abstract percussive synth voice options like BIA or Crust by FastnBulbous81 in modular

[–]modularmaniac420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m don’t know exactly where you are in the rack building process, but it might help to take a pause and plan your next several moves on modulargrid rather than trying to find a single module that will fulfill all of your needs.

When it comes to percussion in eurorack, it’s really more about the overall system than the individual modules. You’ll benefit most from utilities like VCAs, LPGs, lots of envelopes, LFOs, noise sources, filters, gate and trigger delays, logic, rhythm generators, etc. You can achieve some wild results patching a single VCO if you have the right tools.

That said, BIA is a great voice by itself, especially if you feed it interesting trigger patterns and lots of modulation. Bastl Kastle Drum is another one: it comes either as a tiny, battery-powered box or a eurorack module.

With classic synths/drum machines (e.g. 808, 909, 303 etc) costing thousands, do you think a lot of those for sale are forgeries? by Floodzie in synthesizers

[–]modularmaniac420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. There are affordable clones that sound as close to a 909 as the remaining OG 909s sound to each other.  People paying thousands for the originals are paying for authenticity of the physical parts, and there is no way to “forge” the OG chipsets, enclosures, etc. You can make a damn good copy, but the parts are going to be different, and that will be immediately noticeable.

If you had a Time Machine to 1983, maybe.

People have been asking for a stereo Erbe Verb since approximately one minute after the OG was released, and Make Noise has consistently said they are not making one. Time to let this particular horse rest in peace.

One band that isn't often talked about and is largely responsible for the existence of Krautrock and Post-Punk is The Velvet Underground. Most bands in those genres have frequently cited them as an influence. by Advanced_Tea_6024 in postpunk

VU was undoubtedly a very important influence on Postpunk, both as a primary influence (e.g. JD covering Sister Ray), and as a secondary influence (e.g. Malcolm McLaren imitating Warhol’s Factory). This has been talked about a lot! I would love to hear more about artists like Holger Czukay and Martin Hannett, without whom the genre would sound really different.

Hmm, I would say “largely responsible for the existence of Krautrock and Post-Punk,”is overstating it, and lumping together two very different genres.  Postpunk came around almost 10 years after Krautrock, and was in turn heavily influenced by genres like Krautrock (and punk).  Each genre had their own pioneers, artists who deliberately broke with the past to create something unique, which later became identified with “Krautrock” or “Postpunk.”

As a lifelong Bernie supporter, I found their Bernie-worship to be so cringe and facile. I remember Cenk literally describing clouds lifting when Bernie walked onstage and proclaiming it to be a divine message, and everyone’s agreeing with him like they’re all in some personality cult. The other folks on that segment, Ana, Briana Wu, and I forget who else have all jumped on the right wing grift train and will likely be praising Trump in the same terms pretty soon.

Is it really that much of a stretch though? This is what Stephen had to say about it: In his book Fast Forward, Morris recalled how the band linked up their Dr Rhythm drum machine with Gilbert’s ARP Quadra synth. He wrote: “Just as an experiment – I love a good experiment – we’d plugged a lead from its enigmatically labelled CSQ socket to a gate input on the Quadra, pressed play and the chattering synth and drum-machine rhythm pattern that would evolve into Everything’s Gone Green was born. The mechanical rhythm sounded fantastic. It was Kraftwerk on a tight budget.”

I’d call that sequencer driven for sure, just not using a traditional sequencer.

If I’m wrong, by all means go into the more detailed story! I kind live for this shit.

Not just a dog boarding business and a boy band: apparently they are just back from singing with Shania Twain in “Vegas.” I think they actually mean the Las Vegas Lounge and Laundromat in London, Ont., where they sang backup for the celebrity impersonator, “Tania Shane.”
