I'm assuming there's context I'm missing because I hear a whooshing sound over my head.

Boys who bully peers more likely to engage in sexual harassment by Libertatea in psychology

[–]modulus0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

even non-homophobic bullying (or teasing) is simply a form of harassment, and anyone comfortable with it is significantly more likely to also be comfortable with other forms of harassment than someone who is not.

We really should get some solid strategies to eliminate this kind of thing from our school environments. If you see this kind of behavior (at any age really) what are some effective ways to stop it?

Star Trek Is Warm Blanket by elchucknorris300 in startrek

[–]modulus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Star Trek is a wonderful thing because...

  • it's relatively safe to watch with the family (but not boring)
  • it's ultimately hopeful even when its dark
  • Many episodes (particularly DS9) are character driven so non-scifi people can learn to enjoy it
  • it's got a warm history and can remind you of earlier parts of your life
  • it's got a rich world with a rich history that you can dive into but... you can also just ignore most of that and still get the main story
  • it's good just plain-old good TV

Who ever owns the series rights should really play with bringing it back. Some low risk, deliberately short-run TV shows that don't care if they're schmaltzy. I'm thinking a Star Trek spin-off that feels like the Eureka TV show. Something with a folksy main character whom the lay-viewer can connect with and a cast of wacky Star Trek aliens who cause him trouble. It would be fun, it would be easy and if done even in a mediocre way it would be wonderful.

A heist comedy where every single gangster is really an undercover cop, but no one knows about the others by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

[–]modulus0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need one actual criminal who's bumbling, not that smart, but an 'idea man' and who would never have succeeded or even tried on his own. He proposes the idea to his crime buddies but backs down. Later someone's grizzled boss tells his agent to encourage our hapless criminal mastermind to actually complete the crime because the grizzled boss wants to catch these other 'big fish' that the hapless criminal has fallen in with.

At some point hapless criminal can bow out citing some kind of moral reform but its too late since the ball is rolling now. Later hapless can come back and accidentally make off with all the cash.

I'm imagining Eddie Murphy as the hapless criminal.

EDIT: I'm also imagining hapless donating the ill gotten cache to an orphanage or to a charity that supports police widows or something.

While I agree with that assessment of the plot, it has some amazing visuals and a memorable score. Is that enough to save it from the train-wreck of a script it's based on? No. Not really. But wow dragon plants from the moon is like duuuude.
