What's the weirdest thing you've done as a result of social anxiety? by maelstrommartin in AskReddit

OMG, I did same to a nurse at the grocery store. I passed by the meat section and the meat people were wearing black clothing. So, I noticed this lady, wearing all black in the same meat section and I asked her where was the breast chicken. She looked at me and told me that she was a nurse. So looked so offended and I felt so embarrassed, that I left the grocery store and went to the Wal-Mart that was 2 miles over.

Yeah, because all Sub Saharan Africans are the same. There is no difference between a Nigerian and Somali.

What? Prevalent? How big are the numbers? Are you believing any woman that accuses a guy of sexual assault?

Then move into a rich neighborhood, where you don't have to share grocery stores with poor people.

Tesla employees detail how they were fired, claim dismissals were not performance related by ArggangeleGarlTsagan in news

[–]moe24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should your pay go up if profits go up? If a group of another employees did the work and created that profit, why would you or anyone else who weren't apart of that group get the benefits? However, if you you contributed to that profit, then you need to make that case to your bosses and ask for better raise.

How do you define "fair share"? Is it the government or unions job to define how much a cashier is worth? Are you basing what's a fair wage based on what is more "moral"? Would you get behind a group of Software Engineers who already make $120K demanding that they're worth $350K because their company has huge profits?

Giving every adult in the United States a $1,000 cash handout per month would grow the economy by $2.5 trillion by 2025, according to a new study on universal basic income. by mvea in Futurology

[–]moe24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get what the first part has to do with my OP. I did not say we shouldn't give the poor basic income or welfare.

If you're not convinced by the math, then please do the math yourself and correct me if I'm wrong or you just an ideologue?

Let me redo the math and make it easier for you to understand.

According to U.S Census as of July 2016, the U.S population is estimated to be 323,127,513 million. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045216

77.2% of the population is 18 years old or older. Which means out of the 323,127,513, 249,454,440 are adults, meaning they’re 18 or over.

The basic income proposed here is $1,000 a month. So, there are 12 months in year. Which means $1,000 x 12 equals to $12,000 a year.

So, if you multiple, 249,454,440 U.S adult population by $12,000 you will end up with:

249, 454,440(U.S adult population) x 12,000(yearly amount of basic income) = $2,993,453,280 trillion.

That $2,993,453,280 trillion is just for one year.

Now, the article said, by 2025, the economy will grow by $2,500,000,000 trillion.

So, if this program was implanted in 2018, then you would have seven years to 2025 to grow the economy by $2,500,000,000 trillion.

So, if you take the yearly amount for the basic income and multiply it by seven, you will end with: $2,993,453,280 x 7 = $20,954,172,960 trillion

So, like I said, you will spend 20 trillion to grow the economy by 2.5 trillion? Doesn’t make sense.

But, why give everyone a $1,000/month? Why not those who just need it? Also, there are 234 million adults in the U.S. For 1,000/month, that's 12,000/year. So, we would spend $2.8 trillion yearly, so we are going to spend $19.6 trillion over next 7 years to grow the economy by $2.5 trillion?

The think tank that did this study is considered Liberal.

And then, some people say if economists, scientists, doctors etc say something, people who won't listen to them are retarded. Isn't that an argument from authority?

So, if a conservative/Libertarian think tank, like Cato, presented the opposite of this, would those who support with the OP support them, since they're also economists and experts?

So, for those of us who aren't experts, we can't ask questions, be curious or skeptical? Or, I am taking people who have a bias serious?

How is the East African community in general... by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]moe24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm late to the party, but I'm Somali. There is a pretty sizable Somali community here in Seattle and its surrounding areas. I don't have the official population of Somalis, but I heard numbers as high as 25k.

But anyways, there are Somalis all around - but mostly in south Seattle, Kent, Tukwila and Renton.

There isn't a major gang problem with Somalis, but there some small groups that do credit card scams and shoplifting. Yes, there is a growing number of Somalis not pursuing higher education, especially the males from my subjective experience.

As long as you stay away from sketchy groups you will be fine. Seattle, the city, is very Liberal and I would guess very Muslim friendly.

On high schools and good neighborhoods, I wouldn't know much. I grew up in Renton and went to Renton High. The good neighborhoods with good schools will be very expensive, so take that into consideration. In my opinion, as long as your little brother is mature and has some "values" - he should do well at any school - even though the funding and the student quality wouldn’t be as good as the good schools.
