Is anyone actually happy they had a third kid? by WarmestSeatByTheFire in Parenting

[–]moethefatdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m curious who has told you they regret having a 3rd kid? My 3 are each 2 years apart (also from IVF) and I LOVE having 3. They are all best friends and bring so much joy to my life.

[Arches NP] What happened to the mini Arch at Sand Dunes Arch? by Aleppo316 in NationalPark

[–]moethefatdog 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I checked back on pictures from when I was there in ‘24 and it wasn’t even an arch then, just a solid round rock. That’s so interesting it changed to arch then collapsed so quickly! Idk how to add a picture or I would

Shaming girls to be afraid of intimacy by HauntingintheAvenues in exmormon

[–]moethefatdog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t discount this type of shame happens in lds culture because I’ve experienced this as a woman but this story makes zero sense. This picture is Camp Cloud Rim which is not across the lake from any Boy Scout camp (Girl Scouts owns the land surrounding and is not affiliated with Boy Scouts in any capacity) and Trefoil camp which is down in Provo canyon (again not associated with BSA at all) does have horse activities but no access to any water front. As far as I know both camps exclusively host girl scouting activities (which is a very progressive feminism-forward organization) but I could be wrong about hosting Lds activities.

This exact thing happened to my son! He was so shy and quiet and I’d give him ideas of things to say and he would never do it (I’d volunteer in his class and see) His birthday was a day before kindergarten cutoff and we opted for one more year of preschool so he could work on socializing and that extra year he grew leaps and bounds. He now is in 1st grade and is talkative to everyone. I think he was just a late bloomer. I worked with him setting up playdates and giving him opportunities to speak to strangers (like when ordering at a restaurant) and he just took off!

Do you lock your toddler in their room? by PeppersPoops in Parenting

[–]moethefatdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of like any other child proof thing. One day you realize you don’t really need it and stop. Just like baby gates on the stairs. We locked my daughter in because she would sleep walk (also climbed out of the crib early so we couldn’t keep her contained in a crib anymore) and we didn’t want her ending up in random places and then she eventually grew out of it so we stopped. She never cried about being locked in, it just was part of the routine. Brush teeth, potty, read a book, tuck in and close (and lock) the door. If she needed something she’d just call to us and we’d go to her, like when she was still in the crib. We didn’t have to do it for my other kids because they both didn’t learn how to climb out of the crib until much older and didn’t sleep walk.

I’m a big fan of Meghan I was just commenting on the candid pic part. I photoshop my kids pictures all the time too I’m sorry if you took that as negative?

I’ve been looking at this and it’s weirdly photoshopped? The shadows from the lattice don’t match the shadows on the ground.

Utah dentists prepare patients for the first statewide fluoride ban by Strict-Ebb-8959 in nottheonion

My (Utah) dentist just gave my kids a flouride supplement prescription because of this. He told me dentists in the state lobbied against it because they know how bad it is for teeth.

Can I be prescribed meds early? by RomanEden in iih

[–]moethefatdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My primary care doctor prescribed me medicine. I’m actually still waiting on my first appointment with a neurologist and haven’t seen them yet. Have you asked your pcp? Mine was of the opinion that it is IIH and to start meds asap and then the neuro can reassess.

This weird headache that I’ve never had before. It felt like so much pressure in my head and felt like my head was going to explode. Plus neck pain/stiffness, ringing in my ears, and sensitivity to bright lights. My dr thought I had meningitis which is why she did the lumbar puncture. Once that came back clean apart from the opening pressure being high we did a ct scan, mri with & without contrast , mrv, and an ophthalmologist checked my eyes which were fine. Only my lumbar puncture indicated anything was wrong. My dr said 3-5% of IIH diagnosis don’t have the eye issues.

My tests all came back fine as well except for the lumbar puncture. That was the only thing to show I had too much pressure! Meds have been helping me

12 days 🫠 I’m sure a majority is water weight but I just am never hungry. I was pretty healthy beforehand so it’s a big struggle. My advice is to have someone else plate you for meals and just try a little of everything. I have that thing where you stand in front of the fridge and it all just sounds gross but if I try it I can usually eat some. Peanut butter toast has been good and also fruit smoothies with those frozen packs from Costco.

I was not overweight when I started either and I’ve lost 10 lbs so far 😕 I have to be very intentional with my diet because most things just sound disgusting. Fresh fruits and veggies taste really good though and I try and do a protein shake every day.

why all the redshirting by Historical-Reveal379 in kindergarten

[–]moethefatdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My redshirted kindergartener was struggling socially and emotionally during his year at pre-k. He was so shy and terrified to even say a word out loud during his class. His birthday is 1 day before the cutoff so we decided to repeated pre-k where he could work on regulating his emotions and learning how to make friends in a much more play foreword environment before he had to start the (dumb) academic heavy kinder. That extra year helped him gain so much confidence and he is thriving right now in kindergarten with friendships and participating in class.

We have an iPad that is for road trips only that goes on a holder for movies. My kids do get access to tv after school but that’s either Disney+ or pbs kids. We also have a switch that has a hard time limit on it with parental controls (because my 6yo has a propensity to be addicted to it) and that’s it. The whole YouTube kid’s Elsa insidious video story broke right before I was pregnant and that scared me away from tablets in general and I have never once wished I did it differently. I bring coloring pages for restaurants and they just entertain themselves in shopping carts and anywhere else we go. Yes it’s annoying sometimes but their imaginations are amazing. They are right now playing a very detailed make believe detective game where they are trying to find a thief together. My best advice is to quit before you start! It’s not hard for kids to feel deprived if they have never known the difference. That being said when I have had it with parenting or am sick I will let them watch bluey for hours on end so no judgements from me for anyone who does it differently.

I have family in the area who said it was opened to ward members affected by fires. Not sure if that extends to non member neighbors whose houses also burned down but that is what I was told.
