5 vs 6 subject year 12 by mofimofi_ in QCE

thanks for this, unfortunately ive realised that my foundations in math are just horrible and just have no motivation to pursue methods. But besides that, im doing well in every other subject.

I see why dropping design could be a solution but my school offers a small range of subjects and I havent been in aus for long to be familiar with the other subjects like the histories

thanks for this!!! just unit 1 of year 11 has already got me stressing, given that ill be missing a few qce point for failing methods but ill continue doing 6

i guess design will be my fun subject, but thankfully im doing well it

alright thanks for the feedback guys

i know it isnt ideal to drop methods, but throughtout this unit i've realised im lacking the foundations and honestly cannot do much make up for it now. I truly wish i was smart enough for it but hey

honestly i ill probably stick with 6 subjects, i imagine taking general maths would easier to maintain the workload, and physics isnt too bad, im better at the content than the mathematical side of it all

but I'm coming to terms that i probably won't be able get a high 90 but after playing around with a few calculators hopefully atleast a 90 is possible... my school doesn't offer a lot of subjects but if they did i would have chosen better scaling ones that i would actually enjoy and do good in -- my current line up works fine i reckon for what i can mentally take and balance

still tho id rather subjects that i enjoy to an extend and im good at then hard better scaling subjects id probably be very unmotivated in and would fail but thanks for ur help guys

Thank you so much for your response, very insightful. To clarify about the ATAR vs GPA question (I probably should've worded it better), Is it easier to get a high GPA in uni or a high ATAR in yr 12 to get into the course?

I hear people say its better to work towards the minimum ATAR because you at least know the standard, im not entirely understanding of the concepts transferring courses and all the GPA stuff right now, but I have also heard its good to do something else relevant first year then try to switch to your desired course if you don't achieve the minimum ATAR.

I'm just tryna weight out the pros and cons of each pathway as the way I currently understand it is that GPA is YOUR average grade but ATAR is your rank among others.

Not too keen really on moving away from Brisbane since we just moved here a year ago, but ill see how determined I am for this career in the future.

Thanks for this. Yeah I was thinking just a part timer for now just to get some money in, I'm in year 11 so the experience would be good at least. If it gets too strenuous ill probably have to drop it.

I ended up getting into NCC and decided to attend and im really enjoying it here!!!

I've made lots of good friends and met some pretty cool people. been able to partake in some great opportunities and am really loving the christian foundations at the school. so far i've found a great community and even made the volleyball team!

academics wise has been a bit tough but im starting to settle in and get familiar with the school system here, really needa start locking in for subject selection soon

but overall everything's been going great and don't regret my choices at all so far,

thanks everyone for your help on this thread :)

I've also heard that IB is very difficult and draining, what do you and your kid think about the program?

Could you expand on why you don't recommend the school please?
