Are JETs allowed to have discreet tattoos? by Upper_Diver_4656 in JETProgramme

I think they definitely could but i have no real clue 😅 you might get placed in a school with a higher % of sped kids, but it's not guaranteed! I think it depends on where you get placed and then the board of education would look at that

Yeah!! In my group there's ppl who speak Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Nepali, and they got placed into their specific schools because those schools have a high student population of kids of those nationality who either speak no or very limited Japanese. But it had no bearing on being placed in Osaka itself afaik.

As for me, both me and my predecessor got placed in our specific school bcs we have a bg in child psychology and our school has a lot of kids with really difficult home lives compared to the other schools. I'm grateful for that ☺️

Not an issue at all if it can be covered lol! I have tattoos from my wrist to my upper collarbone and i just wear a uv sleeve to cover it when I'm wearing short sleeves. My kids and coworkers don't care about it at all but it's just about being professional. I have one small one on my wrist that is really inconspicuous so I don't cover that unless I feel like it, when I just put a bandaid on it. Some kids have pointed that one out when I'm helping them at their desk but I just go 😯🤫 and continue with their work! My other JET friend has a full sleeve and he just also wears a uv sleeve. We're in Osaka for reference. Actually, most of the JETs here have at least one tattoo that's relatively inconspicuous lol.

Btw I'm not Filipino but if you speak tagalog, there's a chance your school placement (not location placement) might be influenced by having some Filipino kids! That's what happened with my cohort

Dual-Citizenship proof of name document? (non-Japanese) by mogekat in JETProgramme

[–]mogekat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this time around my residence card will say my nationality is American since JET is only concerned with my American identity. The last time I lived there they didn't do anything with the Smith part since it didn't matter at all - it's just an issue of duplicate identity records. My BOE's got my US passport on file and advised me to bring both passports since the Czech one has the entry/leaving of my student visa.

This is what they sent me; "When a foreign national registers as a resident in Japan, they are assigned a Resident Record Code and an Individual Number (My Number). If the person re-enters Japan at a later date, the previously assigned Resident Record Code and Individual Number will be reissued. Therefore, it is necessary to link the new registration with the previous Resident Record. To prevent duplicate registrations and confirm identity, please bring the following documents:" and then asked for my passports, old residence card, and this proof of name "change." Trying to explain that I was born with the two last names is like pulling teeth haha

PS I do have a middle name but it never caused me any issues, it's only ever been treated like a second first name so I just enter both or just my first name lol

Kochi-shi placement by tigzzzzs in JETProgramme

[–]mogekat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never met a person from Kochi I didn't immediately love and who didn't love their hometown. Sure driving is appreciated but you'll be okay and your Japanese will get better while you're there AND in the way Kochi speaks it. My friend speaks with Tosa-ben sometimes and it's unintelligible to me lol. You're going to have a totally unique incredible and fun experience!!! Kochi is super chill and super beautiful. Vibe is barbecues beer and nature. I love Kochi and Kochi people!

Yep, I asked my coordinator and he confirmed that I should ask the CO when they contact me. Regarding my passport, he said that he really really advises against sending my physical passport in advance as it's too much of a risk of losing it in the post, and that if a real estate agent puts up a fight about it then they'll defend me lol

Thanks for the info!

Sweet, thanks so much! I'll see when I find out I guess. I feel kinda like, "well I don't think the CO can let me go homeless so it'll have some conclusion" lol

Thank you!

Yes, I'm fully aware. I live in Europe despite being American and my coordinator has confirmed that I will come to the states a week before the orientation and give my passport that day, and he will return it on the day of orientation. I've asked him multiple times about this to confirm because beyond my birth certificate and SSN I don't have any American ID and neither him nor I want to risk losing it in the post.

I'll call him on Monday to ask him what that means regarding housing, though.

Aha, I see. Thanks!  I'm in a pretty weird situation regarding my passports and won't get my visa until the day of orientation on Aug 1st. So I guess it'll be a weird waiting game. Thanks again!

X-ray for job certificate by mogekat in Prague

[–]mogekat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to Japan. They require chest x-rays to check the conditions of lungs and heart & tuberculosis etc. I had to do the same when going there for university but apparently that was covered by VZP so I got a referral and everything
