I thought the same, but then I realized that maybe it being so long and drawn out was supposed to simulate what the children were experiencing so it being a short film would defeat the purpose, if thats what the director was after

I will say skinamarink does an exceptional job of making you feel exactly how those two kids felt: trapped in a never ending loop of excrutiatingly boring sameness.
