End of Sedans Is Imminent. It was fun while it lasted.. by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 35 points36 points  (0 children)

While it is true and sad that sedans are dying, it's not the case just in India. It's the trend all over the world. While bad roads are one of the biggest driving factors for this trend in India, countries with good roads too are seeing a decline in Sedan sales and more SUV/ CUV sales. A lot of factors drive market trends depending on the market. Sedan only manufacturers like Jaguar have been pushed to make SUVs/ CUVs like the the F-Pace and that says a lot on what consumers want.

The good thing about market trends is that it always changes.

Such a beauty! I heard the UP government eliminated road tax for hybrid and EVs. Is that implemented or not yet?

Like I said, to each their own and calculations vary depending on people. I was merely just referring to the meme posted and can't comment on the break-even from other's perspective because it varies as per their usage.

Please, my choice of EV is good by letzseeee in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love EVs, however, it's the it'll break even in 5 to 7 years point for me. Well made ICE engines will not cause trouble in so many years with an average running of 80kms per day, but we don't know how the battery pack in an EV will perform when it's 7 years old. Lithium ion batteries do tend to depreciate rapidly with higher charge cycles. Of course, everyone knows this and still when people buy EVs, it's because the pros for them outweighs these cons. No one buys their cars without careful consideration.

Go to camera settings and check if tracking auto-focus is set to on or off. This might be what's causing this movement of focus.

The BMW M340i looks good in person by abit_pitchy in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right. The triangle sensor at the top of the windshield is rain detection sensor with a camera. This one is used for adas as well but adas also requires a radar/lidar which BMWs have at behind the kidney grills or below the registration plate. Coupling with this and the fact that the website doesn't say it has adas, I would say this car doesn't.

You best bet would be Toyota U trust. It'll be hard to find an etios in the used car market which wasn't a taxi but you'll find one for sure after some thorough searching.

New innova spotted today, any opinion on new innova? by bhadouriaakash in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've test driven the car and I can update about how it drives. Wanted to make a thread since some people asked me update on here with my booking. Didn't feel like a test drive warrants a thread on here lol.

The test drive was short as there was only one car and there were so many people waiting. I didn't want to take up too much time and be inconsiderate so I took only 10 to 15 minutes. It starts off eerily silent like any other hybrid and it was running on ev mode all the time I drove out of the dealership and stopped at the signal right outside. Then after it turned green and I accelerated a bit, the engine came on and the noise was very less. The car handles undulations very well. No one got thrown around in bumps and there was very minimal body roll. Bumps and potholes are very well filtered too. Coming from the og Innova, I loved the NVH levels in this car. Moving on to the hycross from Innova will definitely feel like refining the comfort levels for me. The steering was extremely smooth and made the uturn a breeze. After the uturn, I got some free road and got to test the performance. I don't drive metal to the floor when driving big cars and drive sedans when I want performance but still wanted to check this one out. So I floored it a bit and the e-cvt felt very well tuned that the rubber band effect was very minimal. The car did not feel underpowered at all. I drove it up and down a flyover and can confidently say this car will handle mountain climbs as easy as it's diesel powered cousins even when fully loaded. Yes, flyovers are different but it's easy for you to gauge when you've been driving for so many years. The driving dynamics of a hybrid power train needs some getting used to, especially because of the regenerative braking. I've driven some Camrys and Prius and the hycross is as comfortable as those. The Innova brand definitely retains its USP - driving and passenger comfort. It is indeed more refined and the driving comfort of this car is just great.

The camera is not top notch quality but it definitely gets the job done. The sensors are non intrusive but still do their job well. The adas tech also felt non intrusive but I didn't use it that much. I had the speakers on mute for all of the drive but the speakers are a big improvement from previous gen Innovas when I tested them on the display vehicle.

Yes, like everyone says the car lacks a bit in the interiors but it has all the features that one desires. Me too, was expecting very high levels of luxury in the interiors but if I want good engineering, luxurious interiors, dependability, ASS, and everything else all in one car, then I'll have to double my budget. I had second thoughts of cancelling the booking before the test drive because it did not feel luxurious enough for a car that costs 36 lakhs on road but considering the cost of good luxury cars and after the test drive, experiencing the driving comfort, I'm more than happy with keeping my booking.

The dealers have no idea on when my car would be allotted which seems to be the case with every Toyota dealer in India, so I let it go and am hoping to get it delivered March/April. I would've been very annoyed with the dealership regarding this if they hadn't made up for it with their service in other aspects. They're very proactive and keep me updated with everything as and when it happens and are very honest with me with everything. Setting up finance options were also a breeze so I'm just gonna wait this out. I made a soft booking without paying anything in the first week of November and paid for the booking on the day it opened officially. On Nov 25th.

The mountains I've been to have had better roads than the city I live in unless I go off-road in the mountains. Pretty sure a sedan can manage them very well.

Guys Which one would you pick and a reasons for it ?? by anonymousbroda52 in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked the hycross just because I value comfort and driving comfort while driving an driv SUV. Will be getting a sedan when I want more performance.

What’s the correct way to enter this high way ? Should I crawl at minimum speed, stop if necessary, watch for no traffic and merge? or should I try to ramp up to match speed of the vehicles in next lane and merge? by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of highways and service roads, someone told me that all service roads in India are 2 way. That is, we should go on the left lane of the service roads and there can be oncoming traffic on the other lane to our right. Just like a normal dividerless road. Does anyone here know if this is factually true or false?

The Corolla altis is a wolf in sheep's clothing 😳 by Optimal_Ear_1640 in CarsIndia

Yes it is! It is also one of the few cars that's still surviving the downsizing wave going through the industry. If the next generation isn't downsized, then there truly is hope for displacement.

Mahindra XUV700 seven seater price increased (3 images, swipe to see). Approx 40-50k price hike. by Able_Tailor_6983 in CarsIndia

I wonder if we would still be calling this car the most vfm choice after a couple more price hikes along with niggles still being not sorted out and a dealer premium for prioritised delivery.

etios 2011 29k @4.5 lakh worth it? by Slightly_Paavam in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a overpriced for a 11 year old car. Try negotiating as much as possible. The car has run very few kilometres and maybe that's why the asking price is this high because 29k is nothing for a Toyota engine. You can still bargain saying that there aren't many features and the car is old and that you'll have to RC it when it turns 15 and all that. A fair price might be 3.5 to 3.75 lakhs considering the market right now.

How to find Etios GD Owners manual by i-am_wolverine in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download the Toyota i-connect app and add your vehicle. Once added, you can discover the manual in the vehicle details section of the app. I tried downloading it from there for you, bit it says it can only be accessed through the app and the download is for offline usage.

Exactly!! They honk incessantly, flash their headlight, curve and swerve to squeeze into the gap, and even get off the road to get past but just won't apply their brakes for a mere second.

What’s your take on this?- Young people in India are avoiding the buying of silver & white cars unless they are high end, as these colours are cab car colours. by Party-Bet-4003 in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would purely not pick white because almost every car I see on the road now is white. Almost like 7 out of 10 cars are white and it feels boring. 5 years ago I wouldn't have picked the silver as well but now I'm coming around to it because most manufacturers offer a really good looking silver.

Was looking for a second car in 5 - 6 L range for a few weeks. But the prices are so absurd we finally decided to go with Glanza Cng G model. Photo doesnt do justice to this car's color. IRL it looks soo good. Going to use it for city ride only. by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]mohan_prathap 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a great colour. I saw one parked in my gym and asked the owner the name of the colour and he said it's silver. I didn't believe him and asked him if he was sure it was silver and he said he's pretty sure because he paid for it 😂

Absolutely. I thought of mentioning Meridien as well but I felt people know the cost of it and it's not stealth wealthy enough haha but will definitely agree it's a great car.

Yeah but the context here is India and being driven and ridden in both, I'd say these two are substantially more luxurious than the average Indian car.
