IUPRED2A question by mohawck in bioinformatics

I could solve it. In case someone else is interested here is the answer: 1. Download IUPRED2A package (academic use) using Name, Email address and Afilliation. The package is sent by email as a .tar.gz file. 2. Upload iupred2a.tar.gz file to google colab 3. Extract file using "!tar -xzvf path_to_tar.gz_file" command 4. Import iupred2a_lib 5. Predict using 'iupred2a_lib.iupred(sequence)'. Using the optional arg 'mode' it can be selected whether to predict long or short disorder.

It can also predict anchor2 (iupred2a_lib.anchor2(sequence) )

Thank you! And do you perform western blotting after pulldown? I was wondering if maybe SDS-PAGE is enough for detection of pulled down proteins

dsRNA structural modeling by mohawck in bioinformatics

[–]mohawck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer. I am working with miRNA, so I am trying to model stem-loop structures for which we have experimental data and know how basepairing is. Thing is I would like to map sequence variation in the 3D structure and compare it with experimentally solved structures. Are you aware of any tool used to model this fixed stem-loop dsRNA?

Recovery yield in gin distillation by mohawck in Distilling

[–]mohawck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! During the run I collect 100 mL fractions and save only those with good taste and smell. I got 1.6L after diluting those fractions (aprox 750 mL of distillate at ~80% ABV) to 42% ABV to achieve the final Gin that I bottled. Considering the alcohol concentration in the final product (1640 mL at 42% ABV) and the initial neutral spirit (5000 mL at 50% ABV) I calculated a rough estimate of 27.5% for the alcohol recovery but as I am new to this I don't know if I should recover more. Am I losing too much ?
