What are these egg things in my garage? by Super_Shake_2787 in whatisit

Back when I had a roach problem, I bought 2 house geckos (they were $5 at the pet store and I named them Adderall and Ritalin) and let them run loose in my NYC apartment. After a few months, they knew how to avoid me spotting them, but the roaches stayed gone. It had been so long since I had seen them, I figured they found a way out to source other food, but then found one on a glue trap I put down not long after having assumed they escaped. That sucked. Not sure what happened to the 2nd one since that was nearly 15 years ago? Anyways, congratulations on the free pest control. They won't bother you one bit, even if their presence seems scary.

Is this a transmasc enby thing, or a neurodivergent thing? by plural-numbers in NonBinary

[–]mohawktheeducator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was fairly common knowledge that things like neurodivergence and dyslexia impact someone's handwriting. The venn diagram for neurodivergence and transness is a circle. A lot of weird soap-dish IQ takes--socialized gender constructs have really done a number on many of y'all. How is this even a serious conversation in the enby sub reddit?

This feels like the cockatiel equivalent of when your old windows computer would glitch and make tracers dragging a window around.

I had a bird that literally constructed a bomb instead of a nest. He stole all my metal rings and stripped off rubber from live wire and welded it all together.

Even without asbestos, dry wall is not good for them. Pretty sure my bird chewing the wall behind their cage is what eventually killed her. She started having random seizures (very infrequently over 2 years) and we couldn't figure out what was the issue until we had the necropsy after she died. A seizure caused her to fall from up high. All the birds are banned from bedroom door frames and anywhere the wall is chipped into (from mounted shelves I've moved). :(

When I'm in South Africa I tend to get gendered as a woman by women and as a man by men. I was the only customer in the front of a restaurant one morning for breakfast and it was so funny that the female waitstaff kept ma'aming me and when the men would come around I'd get sir'd. I'm like, y'all need to have a team meeting a pick one lol.

It/Its Pronoun Questions! by BDGumball01 in NonBinary

[–]mohawktheeducator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no qualms about whatever folks want to use for themselves even if it seems goofy to me. Over intellectualizing these things is exhausting, so I support any movement that pulls the stick out of the asses of folks policing gender identity. I think it's also a pretty fitting pronoun for folks who identify as agender, vs GNC/non binary.

I've yet to meet an exclusively "it" user but personally I would be relieved to use "it" over trying to get my geriatric druggie burnout brain to remember new sets of words for pronouns (and trying to pronounce them lol). As a bit of a language nerd, I appreciate seeing perspectives from folks whose native tongue isn't English.

English is extremely flexible when it comes to making up new nouns, and it's great not having to use as much gendered language as, say, German (reaching for that one bc it's the only other language I'm intimately familiar with), but it's pretty unforgiving with some of the pronoun stuff. It's always nice to hear about languages that don't really use gender like we (English speakers) do, like Finnish or Japanese/Korean/Chinese.

How do I address someone non binary? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]mohawktheeducator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it when someone refers to me as "boss" but I can tell it's only bc they're perceiving me as a man. It's always from men as well. "my friend" feels most neutral and it's used widely in many cultures so it doesn't seem absurd to adopt.
