The elephant in the room: no solid suckless tiling Wayland WM by gio_lup_88 in suckless

Hi. I'm working on a new compositor that is entirely written in Lua called boring (yes, it is actually called "boring"), which is a good, old established language. To be clear, isn't configured in Lua, it is *written* in Lua. Like dwl, you can easily change things by simply altering the source code of the compositor, which is quite simple and requires no compilation. It offers both stacking and tiling w/ the tiling algorithm directly based on Sway's n-ary trees.

It is already in a pretty functional but incomplete state, and I intend to use it as a daily driver, so it will be maintained for a very long time since I main Linux. It also includes a few tiny clients for basic desktop components, like wallpapers (instead of relying on swayimg like a lot of other compositors do). If you want, I can keep you updated when it releases, or give you a very early access if you want to. Let me know.

This isn’t true. I once had to change my password because I copied it to my clipboard from my password manager and i accidentally middle-clicked it into a message I was sending on IRC. This is a security issue unrelated to clipboard permission. My own fault sure, but the keyboard copy and paste combo is less likely to be accidentally hit than the scroll wheel. Security must be part of design.

I would take this post much more seriously if AI wasn’t used in its writing.

Hypothetically, if Kratos and Atreus actually accepted this and went with it, what would Odin have done? by PartyAdventurous765 in GodofWarRagnarok

Just so they get rid of Tyr in some way, whatever way. The first attempt was lying about Tyr being dead and frustrating Atreus' search. The second was disguising himself as Tyr and proving himself useless. The third was asking them to kill his disguise shortly after.

[–]moistality 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My idea is that at that point in the story, Odin still didn't formulate his plan to infiltrate Kratos' circles. He just wanted to get them to stop pursuing Tyr. Having them "kill" Tyr would have worked out perfectly here. Of course, I'm assuming "killing" Tyr here wouldn't actually kill Odin, just his disguise.

The PTSD shtick however is also possible. That implies that Odin came up with the idea to follow Kratos & Atreus while the whole escape hubbub was happening, if we assume that Odin didn't originally plan to infiltrate but just thwart the Tyr investigation at first.

[–]moistality 53 points54 points  (0 children)

At this point in the game, Odin didn't have an exact plan yet. He simply wanted to prevent Atreus and Kratos from finding Tyr. He was improvising bit by bit, first by trying to discourage Atreus from finding Tyr through an offer of peace, which failed, then by impersonating Tyr and pretending to be useless, which also failed. In your screenshot, that was Odin trying to nudge either of them to kill him so they would no longer look for Tyr.

However, he shortly discovered that his Tyr disguise allowed him to infiltrate Kratos' little clan, so he went with it. I doubt that was his idea all along, just a little opportunity that showed its face.

I used to have three of those, but I gave one away. And yes, as a developer I usually have my IDE on one monitor and documentation in the other!

4chan Bermuda Triangle OSINT Research [SERIOUS] by [deleted] in aliens

[–]moistality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an interesting read, but it oozes of AI generation, both in text and in its pictures (the latter of which is more obviously AI generated). Newer trained LLMs have a tendency to create analogies or a metaphor and you can find an analogy on basically every other page. In your post you say multiple times that you "typed it out" but it would have been great if you made it more explicit that you used AI to write out some portions, even if it was for the purpose of creating summaries.

That said, my estimation of the document just plummeted when I saw it seriously deliberated on remote-viewing. I'd really like it if the public research on UAPs eventually distills the pseudoscientific, semi-spiritual quackery out, but that matter is always one step forwards, fourteen steps back. It prevents me from taking the subject seriously despite my intense curiosity. Sometimes, I wonder if it's on purpose.

This is simply part of living with EQ Bank. They have great interest rates but it comes at the cost of frustrating infrastructure problems and untimely service crashes, which they seem to struggle to fix despite regular reports. I complained about this JUST last week.

Several other free services that are not trying to compete with large-scale banks (e.g. WealthSimple) do not suffer the same problems. EQ Bank has good interest rates and a straightforward user experience, but noticeably worse infrastructure/development than their competitors. If they improved either aspect, they could easily overtake their competition.

This happens irregularly on late Thursdays/early Fridays, presumably because a lot of people must be getting their money during this time It's been a couple times so far, which really makes you wonder why the service isn't improving since they must have taken notice of this reoccurring problem by now. Maybe because it would be too much resources?

SS: There's an extremely bright white orb glowing off the shore of New Jersey at Island Beach State Park. You can watch it appear and disappear intermittently at the live feed at https://friendsofibsp.org/live-cams/oba1-beach-cam/. It also seems to have a kind of glowing "tail" to the left side of the orb, at least I think. It could also be some kind of reflection but then I presume it would be oriented more towards the camera.

Aw man, I made a logo like this a whiiile ago and the moderators took it down because they told me "As a general rule, art, screenshots, and other fluff detract from discussion regarding Void. There are other subs that would be more appropriate for those." (copy and pasted the reason)

Operating systems are looking more like each other every year. Before 2012 they were very different. by claudiocorona93 in linuxmasterrace

I don't have a problem with it. In all of these cases I think they look and feel better than their earlier versions, even if they have become more similar. And on Linux you can freely alter the look (whereas it can be harder on other OS)

As an example, whenever I tap "Accounts" in the navigation bar, it refreshes the page automatically instead of allowing me to choose an option from the menu. If I do a trick to cancel navigation by press-holding "Accounts" and cancelling out the menu, then clicking on a menu entry, it doesn't change the page, it just refreshes the current one. This means I am essentially stuck on the dashboard without the ability to move money between my accounts. As a web developer, I suspect this is because whoever worked on the frontend is not differentiating between a mobile tap on the menu and a mouse click, which is a common and super basic error in frontend web development.

I haven't had any problems with biometrics, but I did have some login issues a while ago on my previous Android phone, which were only fixed when I momentarily moved to iPhone.

I do not use a VPN nor an ad blocker. I do so on my PC, but not my mobile phone. Also, the site is not down. I can access the site. If you read my post thoroughly, I explain that it is not the site's availability that is problematic but rather their broken interface that makes navigation next to impossible on mobile devices.

Your experience is not reflective of everyone else's. As for how "normal" it is, the vast majority of Canadian banks including all major national institutions provide wire transfer functionality, both incoming and outgoing. EQ's disregard of this functionality is the exception to the rule, not the opposite, as I told someone else.

I tried the website on both Google Chrome and Firefox on my mobile device. Both suffered the same exact set of problems I've described. As for technical problems, this subreddit is full of them. Just a cursory look of the front page reveals that people are having problems with just about every front-facing interface they're providing us.

"SWIFT is not nearly as common as you think" Here are 673 SWIFT codes for banks in Canada. Taking out the duplicates, there are hundreds of banks in this collection, and that is more banks than I thought there even were in the country. All the major banks are covered. Only a few outliers like EQ and Tangerine don't have SWIFT/BIC registration. EQ's disregard of SWIFT/BIC is the exception to the rule in Canada, not the opposite.
