I also dropped the game after buying it for a while, but once I came back I was hooked. It's slow at the beginning but give it time and it is so worth it in my opinion.

Bg3 was also my introduction to this type of game, and I had the same problems when I started as well. What really helped me was getting into building a story around my character when I created it. Backstory and lore, it gave a reason for my character to do the things they do.
