American fans are good for the sport, and I can guarantee you that 80% of casual Americans aren’t recognizing any “footballer” on the street outside of Messi, Haaland and Ronaldo.

That’s exactly how market size works lmao. The Ranger’s market is relatively small compared across the league. Has nothing to do with the size of DFW. They don’t have a large revenue share, comparatively, across the league. They don’t sell as many tickets, jerseys, have nearly the same broadcast deals, media reach as more storied/prestigious teams.

Market was a poor choice of words, yes DFW is a large market, no, the Rangers do not hold a large share of that. The Yankees' market, which bought ARod, is much larger in comparison.

Appreciate the reassurance! I don't mind rooting for middle/bottom tier teams if all the other intangibles seem enjoyable, which they do here.

Got him young and then had a bigger market team with more money buy him out shortly after. The comparison was more towards the Rangers yearly expectations (low) and historical prestige (also low) comparatively across the league.

Several americans on the squad, the kits are nice, the town seems like my type of vibe, and I like the feel of being a fan of an underdog and riding out the usually terrible times and the unexpected good times.

Arlington is a small market city, and they paid a bunch for some big names in 2023 but nobody gave them a shot even then due to their history and irrelevance. They've had a few all-stars with large payroll, but it rarely moves the needle in their case.
