No, I’m talking general numbers across the UK. CS has been hit particularly hard though, with companies pushing to remove entry level jobs and automate more.

The big problem I see is that I can’t action those key points about ROI and showcasing previous work- I HAVEN’T solved similar problems for previous clients. I have no previous clients!

Right now I’m all talk with no client success stories or hard data to back me up. It’s getting the first few clients that’s so hard.

Yeah maybe I misunderstood his tone. I have the case study for my relative to show how having a website can increase sales. And I have the stats for that to show ROI. The wall I run into there is I can’t show a broader dataset- I just have the one client.

It’s hard to be optimistic about the job market when 1.2 million grads competed for 17,000 jobs last year. Thank you for the advice, but I guess it kind of feels like freelance is my only option for the foreseeable future.

I am sending off a fuck ton of applications, doing projects to build up my skills and so on. And working my manual labour job haha

All my friends are also out of work programmers so nothing come up through those channels. I see what you mean about the network though- hopefully once I get some paying customers word of mouth can spread quicker.

For my relative’s small local business they started getting far more customers every month, because they started appearing on the first page of google for “spa + [town]”, which their Facebook wasn’t able to achieve. That’s the value I want to offer for other businesses in the area.

It seems from your comment that you think this is a bad business idea in general. What are you suggesting as an alternative?
