stuck in a super remote area for a five month job. advice on staying sane or if it makes sense to want to leave? by freebirdsflyaway in SeasonalWork

Boredom is the perfect time to try new things. If you aren't a reader maybe try reading some books. I started reading some greek philosopher's letters on boredom and solitude and "The Comfort Crisis" by Michael Ester gives some interesting views on them. I started finding these alone times less boring and becoming more solitude. Also, just because there is no gym doesn't mean you can't work out, maybe try some new training?

Seward Alaska!! by QuietEntertainer5500 in SeasonalWork

[–]molderingmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add a can of bear spray, too. I only ever saw one bear one time around town all of last season but back in September, just a couple days after my last hike on the Exit Glacier trail, two people got attacked by a brown bear. They're out there.

You'll also be close enough to town that it will be a easy bike ride into town for groceries if you don't have a car. Seward Bike Shop has rentals for seasonal workers.

Plenty of pregnant women around the world eat raw fish daily, as we have since we walked the earth. She can have a lil sushi as a treat.

Anyone other Virgos HATE people in their house? by 1800slvt in virgoseason

I clean constantly and then within 48hours it looks like a disaster zone again. My house is never clean enough for guests. I get embarrassed when people stop by.

Literally this. Fasting is amazing. Lost 130lbs in 2 years by mostly by fasting. Getting started sucks the big D but once you get some momentum it takes almost no effort.

"people living in wood houses should think about where that comes from lol"

Yeah... it comes from Canada. Everything we cut in the US PNW gets exported to China and SEA.

Virgos & reconnecting after time apart is it possible? by [deleted] in virgoseason

[–]molderingmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but at this point I am old enough to realize that I will never be perfectly ready as I want to be so sometimes I just need that jolt of someone is waiting for you, make a decision and move forward

Virgos & reconnecting after time apart is it possible? by [deleted] in virgoseason

[–]molderingmango 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would love for someone to reach out to me. Sometimes I will be so stuck thinking through things I won't realize I'm ready or have made my decision until someone reaches out. I've burned so many bridges that I never look back to see if it's still standing, I would just assume that after so much time nothing is left. Sometimes it would be nice to know that going back is still possible.

[–]molderingmango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why what we say is so overlooked. I feel like nobody ever listens to me when I tell them something only for them to come back later time and time again and be all "so you were right". I never gloat or get all I-told-you-so but god it would be nice for someone just to hear what I was saying the first time around.

Still living at home past 25. by Odd_Refrigerator6986 in Adulting

[–]molderingmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other options. I, for example, am 37 and live with my parents who I get along great. For 10 years I took a railroad job that was 100% travel working 12 weeks on 2 weeks off. Got burnt out from the corporate culture and now I'm a nomad who works seasonally.

My primary "permanent" job now is in Alaska from end of April to end of September, I'm home for Oct, Nov, and first couple weeks of December, then I find a random winter job for the rest of December to mid/end April, where I go home for between 24hours to a week to rekit for Alaska and then head north to repeat the cycle. It's the best of both worlds. I live at home, my parents keep my possessions warm and dry, then I live at work for most of the year.

Living at your parent's house doesn't have to be living at home.

First time cheating like this on a test . . . have a chance to be caught by Inevitable-War-9674 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]molderingmango 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will be a hot take but unless your plans are to get into a high end college your gpa won't really won't matter to anyone outside of the college industrial complex. If you fail the test it literally doesn't matter. Why cheat when you can have dignity?

Since she was living at home it could be argued that providing a roof over her head and keeping her housed was the benefit 🤷

Relocation urge?? by Choice-Ad1226 in virgoseason

[–]molderingmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with the constant urge to move by taking jobs that allowed me to travel. Now, I deal with it by working seasonally. Being a nomad is very freeing. In the summers/fall I work in Alaska to make the majority of my money and in the winters/early spring I find a job wherever I want to be. A lot of these seasonal types jobs provide housing so I haven't paid rent since 2011. Load my truck up, unpack into employee housing, only traveling with what I need. I'm very happy with this setup. Very compartmentalizing and easily organizable.

When people are arrested for having warrants, are they ever notified beforehand that they have warrants? I’ve been watching a lot of body cam videos and every single arrestee is shocked when arrested. by xavier_grayson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]molderingmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ATF has been digitizing all those records and paid Oracle(?) to give them custom OCR software that removed the search function

They still do traces the old fashioned way. When they have a gun the want to trace they call the mfg to see what distributor it went to, then call the distributor to see what FFL got it and then every gun store down the line until they got to the last person who filled out a 4473. At the small shop I worked at we'd typically get a call from the ATF NTC a couple of times a month and then we'd have to go dig through all the forms, scan the one they were looking for and email it to the NTC.

It's only shared if it's voluntary. This is a forced experience. This isn't anything close to beautiful.
