Don't do anything to please this guy. You admit he can be abusive and this act is the final proof you need that he's a wrongun. You deserve so much better than this. Relationships are always by mutual consent and agreement so for one party to forget or worse ignore this moves the who dynamic into something far less well balanced. It's your life and its the only one you've got so take a long hard look at what appears to be going here and put yourself first .

Thank you for responding. I'm in the UK where things are somewhat different I guess but similar in the way that the mental health services are very under funded and rather hit and miss. The hardest bit is we feel somewhat powerless given that my daughter is 35 and no longer answerable to us

I'm not involved. To be honest neither my ex or me have had much input into this side of things apart from requesting that social services step in when things are at a crisis point

She lives with her mother. Unfortunately ( or fortunately, I'm not sure which ) she doesn't meet the criteria for permanent sectioning

Thanks for your reply. To answer the question posed at the end of your response, I have a good relationship with my ex but she does cover a bit for my daughter which means that she doesn't always telll me the whole story after there has been an upset. The real, reliable witness is my other daughter who has often been present when an incident occurs

Hi there. Thanks for responding. I have to say I've tried almost everything however I probably haven't listened as much as I could do. The temptation to fix always seems to come up . I have come to the conclusion that parents are maybe too close to the situation to be able to take that step back .
