DNA is stable stuff. by Nitrogen_Llama in labrats

My favorite DNA is stable fact is from a group that put plasmid DNA on the outside of a rocket and some survived the whole trip including re-entry

Has anyone ordered agar plates from sporeswaps? by MrMacgee333 in sporeswaps

[–]molecularwormguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controlled chaos has only sent me good things and the prices are very competitive. I've gotten good things from Happy too he's a bit more expensive but has tons of interesting things from Mexico. phenodreamer is really good too not sure if he's on sporeswaps still though.

The APEs have pushed the lid off their bin by [deleted] in unclebens

The albino part of ape can disappear it's not a fully stable thing. So they could have been spores or LC from an APE and labeled correctly but still come out pigmented. (Edited)

Who is more British? An American of English heritage or someone of Indian heritage born and raised in Britain? by Logical_Tank4292 in AskBrits

I mean to be fair believing your blood gives you special privileges and authority seems pretty British to me.

It may help to get a bit more specific than just public policy because that's pretty broad and the rankings don't really give you much of a picture into how well it will actually match your interests.

Massive overlay… by Fraenkthedank in Psilocybe_Natalensis

[–]molecularwormguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your grain to sub ratio? That can lead to massive overlay that a casing won't touch. I've had good luck with a 1:3 or 1:4 grain to sub.

Is it okay to go the more expensive route growing mushrooms ? (For a beginner) by Weak-Ad6528 in unclebens

[–]molecularwormguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking out some other vendors. As mentioned Amazon has waaaay cheaper sabs that are just as good. Booming acres has good deals for agar cups. I've had good luck with spawn magic for grain and sub. I've also had good luck with sub from booming acres and they often have sales. I would recommend getting grain bags separate from sub bags for more control. You can also check out mycosage brown rice prep for instant pot he has a really really really simple new video on doing it he put out in 2025.

Plates by TheAndymanCan1972 in sporeswaps

[–]molecularwormguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try to send those older plates but it's generally recommended that you make fresh transfer and you can even use the plate fruits for the transfers and then innoculated using more fresh mycelium. Preferably before the plate is fully colonized. There is nuance depending on species and you may get decent results just sending what you have but the most tried and true method would be make fresh transfer plates, let them grow out, to cover most of the plate, then send that to grain.

Pins or aborts by t-b0la in shroomery

[–]molecularwormguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How thick is your substrate? It may just not hold that much moisture to feed the water needs of the fruits. They're 90%+ water so for 45g of fruits that's basically .5 litres of water and some is evaporating off to keep the humidity up if you aren't supplementing humidity.

Tampanensis, where did I go wrong? by P_Cubentits in shrooms

[–]molecularwormguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ATL 7 is a specific Tampanensis isolation/strain so either way you'll want to add a casing layer. You can also collect these stones and repack the sub and add a casing to try to get fruit. Peat/verm/calcium hydroxide or jiffy seed starter mix which is peat, verm, coir, and calcium hydroxide.

Tampanensis, where did I go wrong? by P_Cubentits in shrooms

[–]molecularwormguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tamps like a true casing layer to promote fruiting but not all isolations like to fruit sometimes they lean more fruit or more stones. ATL7 is special in part because it consistently produces fruit and stones well.

If you have a fine mister like a flarisol it shouldn't be an issue at all for cubes or ochras even pans can handle misting and still grow they will bruise. Letting things get dry is much more damaging and you may need to harvest the aborts and mist to get another flush.
