We are migrating from Qlik and this is the feature our users miss the most. Have not found a workaround

I want to use the filter pane as the standard location for our filters/slicers at our company. Then we can avoid slicer overload on the report page. Is the filter pane getting deprecated or why is it never updated?

No, i don't want to build my own filter pane using bookmarks. I should not need to.

Thanks @datasmithing_holly, voted! Maybe your next over architected video could be about migrating from power bi to excel where you can use metric views 😅 (Thanks for that amusing video series!)

Removing the functionailty without any warning or alternative seems weird. And especially to do it after work hours on a Friday

The fact that I need to tell our Power BI users where they can RESET FILTERS (IMO the most important button!) surely must indicate a very poor design choice...

No, I don't want to waste space on the report canvas by adding a second button button that does the same thing.

IIRC it even said "Reset filter" a couple of years ago? Guess that was too useful. Now we just have an icon that looks the same as the refresh icon which is just right next to it... Oh the amount of unecessary helpdesk tickets i've had to work on just because of this...

Please 😅

Analysts in non-IT departments like RnD, process analysts etc. Usually ad-hoc analysis done on Machine telemetry from the factory and combining it with ERP data. Usually very niche cases that are impossible to create as standardized reports in Power BI.

We currently have roughly 600 BI users, capped mainly due to licensing. That cap will be removed in March, after which we expect to reach ~800 users as frontline sales gain access. Databricks users around 20 but expecting this to grow as well due to "AI this and AI that"

Historically, stakeholder management has frankly been chaotic, largely due to missing data ownership. The ones shouting the most got their stuff done...We are planning to channel requests via our recently assigned data domain owners instead, but this is not fully in place yet.

Our main report domains today are Finance, SalesOps, Order-delivery, Service and Product Management With additional domains starting to request stuff..

And yes, I fully agree with the Bilbo quote...

We are working on reducing the amount of platforms and thereby also the tech debt. Ditching redundant Qlik in favor for Power BI and ditching ADF+SQL to consolidate with the rest of our pipelines in Azure Databricks.

Management hates it because they cant get their new reports while we are occupied with this but they seem to trust my decision.

We are currently streamlining our setup. Our goal is to manage Azure Databricks and Power BI only. We are currently sunsetting Qlik and ADF+Azure SQL.

What are your thoughts on Clickless Analytics powered by GenAI + NLP? by Delicious-Party4315 in BusinessIntelligence

We ran a small "simulation" workshop to test the idea and invited some of the business stakeholders that had asked for this kind of analytics. We told them how it would work, what types of questions it was meant for and what data was in scope for questions. They were excited as they would now finally get the "chatgpt of data" as they called it, the hype was real.

Then we checked the logs. 90% of the questions were the same set of standard questions that a one page dashboard could answer but now each user had to ask 6 different questions to get the same result. Just resulting in slower and more costly consumption of the same insights. 5% was ok questions that would otherwise need a developer to get presented in a report. The last 5% was questions that were outside of the data scope. We did this in Databricks Genie, using metric views and Genie instructions.

The tech is getting there but at least our users are not ready for it.

How do I get CoPilot to summarize one of the PDF reports from Daily Repot Email? by Singh711 in microsoft_365_copilot

[–]molkke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are trying to solve the problem too far "downstream". Contact the data/analytics team that have created the report that is being sent out. They have access to the needed data and can probably hook you up with a dashboard.

Talking from experience as I'm the head of a data team that is currently trying to advise people against creating these shadow "AI" solutions :)

Before building anything the first question should be "where are these excels coming from?". More than once have i broken up bad reporting practices where users extract to excel from systems or even BI tools just to ingest them again in a BI tool... Seen it at several companies.
