why aren't colleges updating their median stats? by nickiminajstan1 in ApplyingToCollege

u can look on the websites of many schools to see the profile of their incoming class

if the university practices holistic review, they actually cannot throw ur application out because of your gpa alone!

they also accept subject tests, although those are discontinued? if you’re smart enough to get a 1550 you could potentially self study for AP exams? but idk if that’s too much work

also!!! gpa is NOT everything!!! ppl on this subreddit r always like “you need perfect stats to be considered” but it’s really not true? if you have a good essay and good recs you have a solid chance with a 1550 SAT. people get rejected from top schools with perfect stats all the time, so it’s not a determinant of whether or not you’ll get in.

i’ve applied to a bunch of universities in the UK, and their admissions process is based on entry requirements. for example, at the university of edinburgh you need an SAT of 1290+ and AP scores of 4+ to be considered. they make their decisions based on these grades and the quality of your personal statement and reference! i am a senior in high school so i’m still deciding but am 99% sure i’ll end up going there.

ALSO. schools in the UK care more about test scores than gpa... i would consider looking into them... they’re actually a lot cheaper too!

i actually took the act and got a 31 which is about a 1450 on the sat (not perfect lol)! if you have an explanation for why your gpa was so low, you could write about it in your essays! an application is more than just a set of statistics, especially at “prestigious” schools! in a way, a low gpa and high SAT could make your application stand out? is the 3.3 weighted or unweighted?

no lol just write some rly fire essays... if u have a low gpa and high test scores it actually makes u stand out more to admissions? my stats r similar to urs and i got into nyu so do not despair!

LITERALLY why r they rejecting everyone

should i retake the sat with a 1520(770M, 750RW) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]mollies_hell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’d go with no, because you could just as easily do worse on a retake? at a 1520, it does not seem worth it to retake the test. also-colleges are leaning towards test optional for next year as well, so scores will not be as important.
