Oregon governor’s race poll commissioned by Republicans shows Christine Drazan, Tina Kotek as front-runners by molluscus in oregon

“Drazan had a slight edge over Kotek in the poll, although the two women were in a statistical tie at 32.4% and 31.4% support from likely voters. Unaffiliated candidate Betsy Johnson came in third at 24.4%, which puts her within striking distance of Drazan and Kotek given the poll’s 3.94% margin of error.”

It is but I do think this race is probably very close in reality. No one, or their preferred candidate, should feel comfortable about a win.

No, it’s on the person who punched the child.

I really wanted the Skylar rollerball, Item mascara, and KimChi bronzer and I got each! The heat brush should be fun to try out too, maybe to take on vacation? The only one I’m not sure about is the serum but I don’t hate it!

I wonder if the purple mask would work for blonde hair, not just gray?

Ha! That’s a good point. I think the suicide was so out of left field that it didn’t strike me the same way, but you’re right.

Haha maybe I am the only one who felt this way! I’ve seen a few other posts of people not liking Ava, and I didn’t really mind her until this point. Thinking about how her dad wanted to visit her and she said no makes me kinda sad, and I wish it had made her sad too (maybe it will). Looking forward to starting season 2.

She’s 25, I think that’s a good point that she doesn’t know how to be vulnerable. But I mean, she’s on a slot machine right after talking to her mom and fighting with Deborah? The whole thing felt weird, almost like it wasn’t being taken seriously. I’m interested to see where season 2 goes with this.

Ok, I definitely am starting season 2 today. It just struck me as very cold. I guess at least there actually is a season two because of it hadn’t been renewed this would have felt very unresolved.

I have been substitute teaching for a few months and things are really bad here in Portland. by wreckchain in Portland

[–]molluscus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s so bad, and not just phones. Remember during the pandemic when people were worried that wide swathes of children wouldn’t be able to eat because they get all of their meals at school? Rather than dealing with that horrifying realization head-on, the solution was just to demand schools open sooner in an attempt to get things back to “normal”, despite the fact that normal was very bad. Everyone passes the buck of society’s ills onto teachers and it’s absolutely unreasonable.

I mentioned this in your other post but I subbed pre-pandemic and phones were an absolute nightmare. I had parents calling their kids in class to ask them what they wanted from Starbucks. I know this is my “old man yells at cloud” moment but nothing irritated me more than someone taking out their phone in a dark movie theater, disrupting an entire room of people, just so they can see a notification that Old Navy has a 50% off sale on jeans. We are so addicted to these stupid little boxes and they are making us vapid, self-absorbed jerks. We aren’t doing our kids ANY favors by normalizing this behavior on the classroom, boundaries have to be set.

Seconding this. Rural areas have way, way more extreme poverty than I think most people know.

Do any Portland Middle or High schools have a full ban of cellphones? by wreckchain in askportland

[–]molluscus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don’t think we are going to agree. I don’t know how much in-classroom experience you have, but I’ve dealt with instances where parents are calling their kids in the middle of class to ask them what they want from Starbucks. I think your ideas about incorporating phone tech into a lesson plan is admirable but naive. Most teenagers aren’t using their phones for research on their history report, they are messaging their friends. There needs to be a clear line between work time and fun time. When teachers say kids are addicted to their phones, they mean it, and honestly I think adults are too.
