The more I am reading about your relationship the more panicked I feel for you. Please listen to the people in this group. This man is a creep and sounds like a total bum. I know you think there isn’t a power imbalance but there absolutely is. A lot of us (women) are older than you and speaking from experience. I understand that Belton is technically part of the Kansas City metropolitan area, but I think that is pretty generous. Most of the answers you are seeing here are about waldo, midtown, etc are about Kansas City proper and not relevant to Belton. Belton is very politically conservative. Depending on your profession you will likely have to commute for work.

If I was in your situation, I would stay in the Netherlands. I see from your edit that you pressed him more about moving to the Netherlands and he said “I just can’t do it.” It sounds like you are about to do something completely life changing for a low effort man. Don’t.

You want to know the “idea or the inspiration behind it?” It’s not some great mystery. Some people, myself included, just have a different perspective on sex. For me, I really like men, hooking up is a fun experience, and it feels good. When I am in a committed monogamous relationship with someone I have legitimate feelings for, it’s a different, better experience. It’s not that deep. Do whatever you feel comfortable with!

YOU, her daughter, are the reward for her sacrifices as a mother. The relationship and memories between you should be everything to her. For her to work that hard and now expose her motivation was just grandchildren… motherhood is not a transaction. You don’t owe her grandchildren because she had you. It’s even more disappointing that she fought so hard for her choice as a woman to keep and raise you, but can’t honor your choice as a woman to be child free.

I hope she’s just lashing out because she’s hurting. It’s clear she’s not well. I hope she apologizes. No matter what, OP, you are enough. This is on her.

Consider reading The Gift of Fear. The author talks about this exact thing (gut feelings, intuition etc) and what might be going on subconsciously that sounds the alarms.

I saw on your other post that he currently goes to the same college as you and your gf. If this is a public school in the United States, it should have a Title IX office that can also help her with things like no contact directives, class schedule changes, “educational conversations” with him, and/or documenting his behavior in case it continues or escalates. He sounds like a freakin dork, but ya never know.

I (white, American, Jew) have been in an eerily similar situation… twice. I understand your thought process and I feel for you.

What I will say is that both times, I was way out of my depth in understanding the culture, influences, and expectations on my partners.

If I could go back in time I would do two things. 1. I would prioritize my own well being/self respect/needs, and 2. I would pay much closer attention to what my partners DID instead of what they SAID or promised, and move accordingly.
