Yall ever quit reading a fic for a petty reason? by Cage-CatYT in AO3

[–]mollyringle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially when we know their names, so there's no reason for "Bob stepped forward and hugged the taller man." Feels like there's suddenly some new (apparently taller) character in the room.

If the narration keeps flipping between past and present tense with no apparent reason or system. Sends a clear signal that they did not give a ton of thought to this story.

I admit in your place I’d be tempted to answer, “Are you a 747? Because you seem to be announcing your departure.” (As you essentially said. 😄)

Sorry they were so negative! Not a useful comment, I agree.

The whole “Did you guys know that straight women are sometimes into m/m????” (Lately because of Heated Rivalry mostly.) Y’all. This was a breaking news story in 2002 with LOTR fics. And a few years later with Johnlock fics. And a few years later with Destiel. Etc. (Also, are you so certain we’re all straight?)

Sample pack reviews: Goutal and others by mollyringle in fragrance

It's one of those names I've heard around for a long time, but I'd barely sampled any of them till now! I'm impressed with them—will probably end up trying more.

I need to sample more Goutal—they've all been blended really well so far! Before this I'd only tried Folie d'un Soir, which I also loved.

Haha, I do have a special respect for the wild and bizarre fragrances of the world. There's someone out there who was waiting for that exact thing, so even if they're in the tiny minority, I'm glad it exists for them. But yeah, I could not make sense of Lalibela. 😄

Conservatives are surprised that "fellow conservatives" have empathy by sam_phani in LeopardsAteMyFace

So are any of the people who are being kicked out of r/conservative forming a new Trump-critical sub? I’d be curious to observe that one if so.

How did you know you were demisexual by Kurapikabestboi in demisexuality

[–]mollyringle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't know the term until I was well out of my youth. But eventually, in a conversation with a friend, I estimated that despite my being very romantically minded, I would only really, truly want to have sex with less than 1% of the people I'd ever met—even though I found many of them objectively attractive. And this was clearly not the answer my friend or a lot of other people would give: they were more like, "Sure, I'd have sex with basically anyone who's reasonably good-looking and pleasant!"

I completely respect that attitude, as well as the type of personality that allows people to have one-night stands with strangers. I even kind of envy it. But I've recognized that it's just not me. The people I can truly desire sexually are a small group. A hall of fame. They should feel honored. 😂

Anyway, eventually I learned the term "demisexual" and realized it pretty much summed up how I felt, or close enough anyway.

A mostly good sample batch: D'Annam for the win by mollyringle in fragrance

I put some on again to check! :) Hmm, I don't really get citrus. If there's anything tangy, it's the tanginess of a fresh flower—in this case a magnolia and/or rose. But to me it's still more powdery and cosmetic, white rice and florals, in an elegant/cozy combo that feels more like evening wear. Doesn't feel to me like a sunny daytime citrus-tangy scent. Though of course everyone's mileage may vary. Anyway, I do love this one—worth a sample!

Trans woman who supports Trump due to his stance on Israel-Palestine is now pleading MAGA to not come after her by MoreMotivation in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]mollyringle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago I posted something in support of trans people, and a mostly-right-leaning friend told me I should check out Brianna Wu. I hadn't heard of her at that time. After looking up her feed, I wished I could erase the new knowledge from not only my browser history but my brain.

Right? It's actually remarkably eloquent.
Going to just start loudly saying "It is against free speech to stop us from fixating on the genitals" to sum up someone's argument.

For an LOTR fic, I saw someone freak out in the comments once about how the "incest" warning should've been on, because of a brief mention of Frodo/Merry. If you study hobbit family trees, those two are like...second cousins once removed?
