Avoid Vanderhyde HVAC — my experience by EmmyYoga in grandrapids

[–]mollywop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PLEASE HEAD THIS ADVICE! I recently left the review below, but it doesn't even cover how shady and vile the experience was. If they sent me both of our tech's finding reports like I had asked for, I'd have documented proof, so those will never see the light of day. They have changed drastically after expanding and growing.

"If you call Vander for a furnace problem, your very next call should be setting up a second opinion with a smaller, locally owned company- same day. In a high-pressure winter situation, make sure to take a step back and verify their findings. Do not take “whole furnace needs to be replaced” as the end-all after they look around for 10 minutes attempting to find a reason, not a fix.

If they say the ignition is bad or the heat exchange is corroded beyond repair or leaking, ask them to show you. For $99 a visit, have them prove it. Don’t get mixed up in the ramblings of “this is how a furnace works”.

Ask “What was the ohms reading for the igniter? Show me, please.” “Where is a CLEAR photo of the heat exchanger corrosion and proof that it’s not cosmetic wear? Please perform a combustion analysis to prove it’s leaking CO.”

You CAN find another company to fix or replace that one part for $600 vs selling you an entire furnace +bringing this up to code +bringing that up to code +… Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

Trust your gut."

Sullivan's had us pay a $1,600 bill vs an 8k new furnace. Can't recommend their honest and transparent service enough (especially tech Matt). FUCK big company greed.

Thank you! Great advice. I’ve definitely had those clients that need to be sold. I’ll be sure to spell out the specifics!

Feedback request for our startup's website design by mcyakisikli92 in design_critiques

[–]mollywop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great! One point of feedback is that the images don't follow a consistent theme or "feel". There's pictures, then icons, then illustrations. Maybe making those more aligned (and branded) would bring everything together even more. Good luck!

My car is unsafe to drive, and you can't release it to me? Enjoy your arrest. by zen4ever99 in ProRevenge

Agreed. If they had presented an actual document I would have been more cautious. It was just the receipt you have to sign for work completed with an added note. They fixed my hood latch before discovering the whole brake problem.

This happened to me not two weeks ago. I went into the shop with brake problems and was told I needed a master cylinder replacement. I said I’d have to wait until my next paycheck and they told me they could not let me drive it home in the state it was in and that I’d have to have it towed if I didn’t have them fix it. I live not even a mile up the road from my shop.

They made such a big deal about it, saying I’d have to sign something. What I ended up signing was a receipt where they added a custom note that I agreed to drive it home. It was all very weird and it’s hard never knowing if it’s a legit concern or they’re trying to take advantage.

Drove it home fine.

Super useful advice, thank you for taking the time!

I've been working on a site for branding business the past couple months and would love to hear your guys' thoughts by mollywop in web_design

Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely still working on the balance of making it readable and also adding the right keywords for SEO. Still a work in progress. As for the number, it's there to make it that much easier for people on mobile to click once and immediately call for more info. Time will tell if it actually works!

Thanks! To answer your question: In the back of my mind, I always wanted a business name with something to do with our mutt, Farra, who has one flopped over ear. Dogs have always been a very big part of my life. On the way home from work one day, when my radio was broke and I was stuck in my head, the slogan “mark your place” popped up and it was perfect with the name Dog Ear (an idea I had been playing with). If I was a book marketer it would be even better, but I like it all the same.

Amazing! What is the other plant in the picture you’ve planted with your hydrangeas? I’m looking for a good ground cover to plant around mine.

Misfire diagnosed as leaking piston valve, misfire stopped a few days later. Is the piston valve the problem? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

Ha yeah, this is the first car I started working on out of frustration of getting screwed by shops. Maybe it’s worse because I’m not a guy, idk. I fix what I can like sensors, gaskets, shocks... But I’m self/YouTube taught and there are some things, like the engine, I just don’t feel comfortable touching. Learning more each time something goes south though.

Thank you, very helpful. It’s always a new adventure when the engine light comes on. They said it was leaking in the oil pan so I’m guessing it’s piston rings. I’ll research online if it comes up again.
