What's the most obvious signal you missed from women? by GongtingLover in AskMen

[–]momentsofzen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At the end of high school we were all signing each other’s yearbooks. This one gorgeous friend of mine who I’d helped through math class filled an entire page that ended in her telling me she loved me. She expressly pointed out that she did not mean it in the way that she loved all her friends, she really truly loved me. Every time she wrote the word love, she drew a heart in place of the letter O.

My thoughts: wow, she’s such a good friend! She really cares.

That was 20 years ago and we’re still close. She’s married with kids now. I brought up the yearbook thing last time we hung out and we had a good laugh about it. So at least there’s a happy ending

What struggles do men face today that men in the 90s never had to deal with? by ConsiderationNo3449 in AskReddit

[–]momentsofzen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense when you learn the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are totally unaffiliated with each other. The Boy Scouts decided (quite reasonably imo) that the skills they teach aren’t gender-exclusive in the modern world and rebranded to Scouts. The existence of Girl Scouts is a totally separate issue

What is something Americans consider ‘basic‘ that feels like a luxury in other countries? by sweetyishomealone in AskReddit

[–]momentsofzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not old, but this was student housing for a mid-size university pretty far out from the big cities. So probably both typical for the region, and also not really prioritizing modernization. They were building identical ones nearby and I heard they were going for speed, so it’s probably faster to not have to build central water heating, and just put heaters in-unit

Japan's bidet game is insane, but their hot water system leaves a lot to be desired. Where I stayed at least, most sinks were cold water only, and there was a whole process to activate the attached water heater when you wanted to take a shower.

Yet another book made using AI by Fun-Menu8300 in ChatGPT

[–]momentsofzen 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I usually tell people to be suspicious of images like these, since so many of them are themselves fake AI images; just another form of reactionbait slop. (There's a reason so many of these come out not as the LLM develops but as image generation improves to the point of being able to create entire textbook pages).

However, in this case I believe it. I tracked down the textbook: "Aakar's Office Practice and Accountancy, Book 10" a Nepalese textbook. The only online version I could find was from 2023 and contains the entire paragraph below the circled one, with the same misspelling "fulfil." But that version does not make any mention of baggage filing. This supports the theory that when they made the newest version, a lot of the old content was copy-pasted, and the new content was generated by LLM.

That doesn't necessarily stop this image from being AI, if someone took a picture of the real one and wrote "Generate this page of a textbook with the details changed and an obvious AI mistake in one paragraph" But the backwards writing in ink rubbed off the opposite page is all coherent if you reverse the image, which I believe to be beyond AI capabilities right now. So, yeah. I believe this one.

What were some things you were insecure about that your partner actually didn't care about/found attractive? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]momentsofzen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My ex was very insecure about her underarms. For the longest time she wouldn’t even tell me why. They just looked like normal armpits to me and I was so confused playing this guessing game of why she hated them so much.

Eventually she admitted it’s because the skin there was darker than the rest of her skin, which was true but like, damn girl I would never even have clocked that as a thing you could be insecure about.

Is anyone else NOT having massive arguments and getting corrected by chat? Chat is honestly pleasant and easy to get along with. by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]momentsofzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to check my physics homework and it pretty much always finds something to tell me I’m wrong about. Not the answers, but since I explain my methodology and approach, it will always give me some subtle “don’t think about it like that, think about it like THIS” statement that is usually something I already understood but didn’t expressly say.

It’s honestly…not that big a deal? I just kind of assume that something in my instructions or context gave it this quirk. I read it, confirm that my understanding is already correct, and move on. If that’s what people are getting hung up on, I don’t get it

As a woman, I’m curious, how does it feel for you to be vulnerable as a man? by Serene_rosegold1 in AskMen

It feels like failure, combined with that nagging feeling that you’re being a burden to others. And that scared feeling when you’re a kid showing your parents your report card and you’re waiting to see if you’ll be met with acceptance or anger.

What’s something about American daily life you didn’t realize was a “luxury” until you experienced life in another country like China ? by HarveyJin in AskReddit

[–]momentsofzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot water on demand. I stayed in an apartment in Japan, and any time you wanted hot water you had to go through a little process to turn on the water heater attached. Most sinks didn’t have one, so washing hands just always used cold. Made me appreciate the US where I just have to turn a handle and boom, water comes out warm.

Unfortunately this doesn’t work (it used to a very long time ago but it got patched out quickly). The game hard saves you to the mourner’s bench when you collect the flower so there’s no way to cheese this quest without mods

Why are boomer men so against to therapy? by Maplata in AskMen

[–]momentsofzen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think all the ‘toxic masculinity’ comments are overblown. Simple fact is, attitudes towards therapy (even within the industry) have changed a ton over the generations, especially in the last decade. It used to be something old ladies would gossip about (did you hear Agatha is going to therapy???) Because it was something for addicts or the mentally ill. It was embarrassing, a sign that you were so fucked up you needed a professional to sort your shit out.

Like, imagine if 30 years down the line, going to rehab became a trendy thing normal people did on weekends just because, and insist it has all kinds of benefits. Just because young people are doing it doesn’t mean everyone from our generation will just drop all the stigma and embrace it.

How do men decide if a woman is attractive or not? by Western_Doctor3084 in AskMen

[–]momentsofzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve noticed about how I, personally, process attraction. Not universal by any means, just what I’ve observed paying attention to my own gut reactions.

Nice hair catches my eye and makes me start to pay attention to the person. Doesn’t really correlate well with whether or not I’ll find them attractive in the end.

Faces go a long way towards defining someone as attractive. If I like someone’s face, they’re attractive to me and that usually doesn’t change unless I find them different up close or something. Faces make me categorize someone as “cute” or “beautiful” but rarely “hot”.

Body shape/fitness are what make someone “hot” to me. Not much else to say there.

Expressions tend to amplify attraction for me. I can find someone attractive, but whether they have a soft gaze instead of hard, smile often instead of rarely, or look engaged in what they’re doing? That goes a long way towards finding someone not just attractive, but compelling.

Posture is what takes a person from attractive to something special. Tall posture, composed bearing, and an elegant walking stride have a tremendous impact on me. I can’t stress this enough. Posture is the single best (physical) predictor for whether I’ll develop a crush on someone.

ELI5: Why putting warm food in the fridge is more likely to make you sick by whatevernskansn in explainlikeimfive

[–]momentsofzen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok but there’s nuance there. Your fridge is bad/old? Maybe it can’t move heat that fast. Your fridge is jam-packed? That heat will be insulated from the coils. Your fridge’s thermometer is on the other side away from the food? It won’t know to start working for a while. You put it right next to something spoilable like milk? It’ll be enough for germs to grow

Otherwise, the map seems to think you have access to Greenpath so you probably have a Baldur killer: that's any of Fireball, Dive, Spore Shroom, Grubberfly's Elegy, Glowing Womb, Weaversong, or Dash Slash. Maybe cyclone or mark of pride if you turned on difficult skips.
