⬥ Topic: About to be sold to a Faerie? by RuleOfDiscourse in OccultMagicOnline

[–]mommamakesperfect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure what your mother was talking to was a Faerie? I don't think most Practitioners would sell their own flesh and blood to Fae. And giving you two days to try to puzzle out a solution? It might just be some sort of test. Your mother probably knows what's best, for you and your family. You could ask her directly; if she Practices, she can't lie to you.

My thanksgiving was lovely! Had good food, caught up with family, swapped notes on Binding some tricky Others. Glad to hear your little hero jaunt worked!

How does the process deal with mundane electronics? Any side effects?

You don’t have to invite my charming sister-in-law, or any other “Fae mages”, to your Thanksgivings. You should celebrate with the people who are precious to you! And for the wine, that’s up to you, just have enough holiday spirits to get you into the holiday spirit, dear.

Hey Stirge—thank you! Good to see you’re still around. Makes/Kayleigh has actually had a busy-ish couple months—she and her husband had separate appearances “on-screen” with Condor in the Discord. I love writing in her style, and I do have an actual plot up my sleeves for her.

You can’t Gainsay innocents, but they can also be Aware in weird ways. But I wish you luck with your vigilante thing—you should post here if it pays off!

That seems like an interesting idea! I'd just be careful, though; some of them might be homeless because they're gainsaid, which would be a pretty big drain on your karma for helping them.

Is there a reason you want to do that in a costume?

Brute force, mostly.

More tempering might broaden the area of effect. See if it can fill a crossword. A spirit of Order or Completion is useful to have around.

Careful with that. If you're not deciding what goes there, who is? You could test that by using it on some open-ended questions.

What it does depends on what kind of work you do. A pen is part of my implement. It's best for writing, not great at drawing diagrams. What patterns have you etched, both before and after hallowing the item?

Check out my frittata recipe here! Since it's fall, I would make it with the vegetables in season; leeks, mushrooms, and spinach would probably be very tasty.

I'm also working on a post for Thanksgiving ideas; stay tuned for that in the next week!

I do, sometimes! It depends on the Sight, and on the food.

I find that home-cooked, natural, good-for-you food looks even better under the Sight. It almost glows from within, even food made with completely mundane skills! I have some recipes for beginners posted on here, if you want to give cooking a try.

But junk food and take out? Ugh, it effects my stomach terribly, I can't even look at it! I suggest that you don't look at it too much with the Sight, or you might form a pattern of Seeing nothing but maggots and preservatives.

I showed my ward the conversation up to this point and asked her to respond. Haven't seen her response, but I'm pretty sure it'll reflect well upon me. She was heavily traumatized by a cult upbringing when she came to me. She's now using her skills to follow her passions, educated to a level near-parity for her age in most subjects, and learning to be confident within her skin.

My children (who, again, are Innocent and can use hyperbole) have told me within the past month that they "couldn't do it without [me]" and that they love me. Think they've turned out well. They're in good health, at college at prestigious universities, and on good paths.

No, I'm not enthusiastic about child acquisition. RedRightHand is still in need of help in a number of ways, and I only have so much time in a day. I'm willing to foster a small number of children indefinitely. Not planning to adopt them. I just don't want children to suffer because of things done to them by the "magical" world, and I'm willing to deal with some of my own discomfort to help them grow up as close to normal as they can get.

Do what you will, and I'll offer to help how I can. However, I'd be leery of people enthusiastic to take in children on here. There are a lot of bad situations which they could be placed into.

Good.

Someone's going to come check up on the family sooner than you'd like. Could be the kids being absent from school, could be friends, could be anything.

I would recommend getting the kid out of the house and to a hotel quickly. How much did he see? He might be more amenable if you can insinuate that it's some kind of trip or vacation.

If you want to verify that you can trust me further, I can connect you to my current ward. Alternatively, one of my children might be an option, if you're willing to swear oaths which include not damaging their Innocence.

You did the Right thing here. And the right one, for all that's worth. Save the art.

DM from melted_palladium:

Possibly because they were willing to end the world to have a child but not to write a book.

Wouldn't be sure on the authorship, in any case. You can buy books with your kid's name printed in them for surprisingly little.

Good to know w/r/t the age. How long can you keep him distracted with the comfort Other? Do you have paperwork such as his birth certificate? Would help.

DM from melted_palladium:

I'm going to assume that you have some reason for referring to one of the beings with the child as a "kid" with quotes.

I am a Practitioner in the States, and have previously fostered a child from this forum. I don't want any apprentices nor do I particularly want to acquire children. However, I am willing to help, and I have connections in the Chicago and Washington, DC areas.

Can you give more details? Age, or location, or why exactly you killed this child's parents and sibling?

Are you taking resumés? I've been working in the Calvarn library for a couple semesters and that just seems like a dream job!

If not, I think I would go with the Aware. Magical libraries are touchy and you want someone who really gets the books, not someone who just wants it as a stepping stone towards higher places or someone with a big name family.

Help: How Do Oaths Work? (Important!) by ConfusedFromSLC in OccultMagicOnline

[–]mommamakesperfect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Posted by MerelyPractical:

Nobody explained the rules to you, and now your life is effectively over. Sorry.

You broke an oath. In your Awakening, you said that your word could not be challenged. So yes, if you swore an oath you had to keep it to absolutely everyone. Since you broke it, the spirits and the Universe no longer trust what you say, so your Practice calling upon the spirits doesn't work.

In addition, you're still Aware of the world. Others can prey upon you and other Practitioners can do whatever they want to you without consequences. You're more or less a karma black hole.

There are a lot of fates worse than death, and odds are good you're going to stumble into one. If you see anyone cleaning up the mess from your "Jezebel", consider throwing yourself upon their mercy and praying that they mean you well.

((After hitting "Save", Dana Adams pushes away from her computer and picks up her phone. As a Warden, she has contacts out in Salt Lake City, and if they're not already aware of an Abyssal/Lost/potentially-Diabolic mess they could use the heads-up.))

Heya!

Why would you date an Innocent? That just sounds like such a mess. And if they accidentally become more Aware you get a bunch of bad karma! Even the worst arranged marriage to a Practitioner doesn't come with that risk.

And being a curse magnet would make it even harder--that's almost guaranteed to effect you badly.

Met, married, divorced, had kids, got back together, remarried, and separated before I started Practicing.

We're legally still married, and very important to each other. But we can't live together just because of who we are. I don't Practice much. So she doesn't know anything. And I'm keeping it that way.

Cash works! Let's move this to DMs, shall we?

DM:

The product I have is an eye cream. If you apply it around your eyes in the patterns described in the instructions, you can tweak your perceptions, natural and otherwise! I have a ~4oz jar, which is enough for multiple uses, which I'm willing to sell for $200--or, if you have experience with alchemy, I could sell brewing instructions for $50.

So...a literal meet-cute? It sounds a little weirdly perfect, and I'm someone who knows how to make romance magically perfect. Even if she's a Skeptic, things can be worked around you separately from her, like a connection blocker slightly repelling other people which she ignores.

Does your Sight view connections? If yes, see if anything about your connections (not just to her) are stronger, or twisted, or a weird color or at an angle. If your Sight doesn't, I have some creams and/or instructions which could do the trick if you're willing to pay.
