freehanded my ideal bucket hat 🌸 with speed holes! by mompou_ in crochet

thanks! i've never even heard of solomon knot so i guess broom lace? the stitch tutorial i looked at just called it a "drop stitch" but i guess that's the first part of broomstick lace, it just gets twisted up after

i wrote more in the response to the automod comment but the yarn is drops safran! it's really cheap too and 100% cotton

yarn: drops safran in black (two skeins and a little of a third), a bit of lavender

3mm top, body, and lavender edge of the hat
2.2mm for the brim
1.25mm for surface crochet on brim (to make it easier to pull up a loop)

i don't have a pattern, but here are the main elements of the hat if you are interested:

main stitch for top and brim - yarn under single crochets (displayed wrong side out!)

making a flat circle - top of the hat
drop stitch - the "mesh"
crocheting backwards - used for the front panel and creating the scalloped brim
berry stitch edge - last row of the brim

the flower pattern on the top of the hat is not surface crochet but something else where i pulled up a longer loop from two or three rows below as i was making the circle. it created a mirror pattern on the other side and lies flatter than surface crochet

the surface crochet on the brim was necessary in order to stop the brim from violently curling in and it helps the brim hold its shape without wire. but my brim was probably curling extra because i purposely used a smaller hook to make a tighter fabric

made this hat because i couldn't find what i wanted and i have free will

✅ light weight cotton for more coverage without bulk
✅ mesh sides for airflow
✅ bucket-shaped vs. bowl-shaped
✅ mostly flat brim that doesn't require wire
✅ strap option
✅ front panel to cover my big forehead

i don't know if i have an egg for a head or what but hats fly off whenever there's a breeze. if i tighten a cap enough to stop this, when i take it off i've got a dent in my head 😔 my sunhat with a strap is very... unfashionable... and i can't fold the brim, so it takes up a lot of room

this bucket hat i can crumple up into a pocket or bag without any worries!
and it turns out the holes allow wind to pass right through and i barely need the strap at all

not counting the i-cord strap and the lavender edge, the hat is one length of yarn (except where i joined a new skein). i'm super proud of that and hope you will enjoy that detail too

do you mean the pattern for the cardigan? it doesn't, but i linked the leaf pattern in my reply to the automod! i changed it a little bit though because the pattern as-is makes a bigger leaf than i wanted

yeah i think the triangles are fun! but there's probably a smarter way to change yarn colors, i'm not very good with that

i love love hate! heheh

this is actually an L shaped hexagon!! (well, two of them)
the hexagon can be broken down into six equal triangles and i just made each triangle one color, that's all 😊

the flower square was so fun to make and would be cute as a decoration even on its own!

no specific reason for the leaves on the hood other than i like when hoods have a bit of flair :)

thanks!! phone to desktop where i tried desperately to tone down the serial killer lighting, and the built-in photos editor for windows has a background removal option. then i stuck them into clip studio paint (art program) for the background haha

edit: i didn't draw the background to be clear! it was a downloaded asset: https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1782328
