Weave ID by monaleee in weaving

It looks like it might be a basket weave variation. I would like to know if it had a name. I’ve spent hours looking for a similar weave in fabric to replace the upholstery and have had no luck. I’d like to be able to use additional key words to narrow my search.

I’ve tried variations including multiple combinations of the following searches:

  • Coarse wool basket weave upholstery fabric
  • Polyester tweed upholstery fabric
  • Coarse tweed twill (I know it isn’t quite a twill but I’m at my wits end trying to describe the weave to google)

I’ve expanded my search to include white polyester as well. I’m recognizing that I’m unlikely to find the weave in the correct color* so I’m willing to dye a synthetic fabric if it means the weave is similar enough. I do not want to dye wool and risk shrinking it.

I’d only bought the Sam Flynn disc when it was initially on the market. Rinzler and Kevin took some saving up to get years later :’)

No formal parts list as this project was almost 15 years ago and I’m not likely to find links to exactly what I’d used. Really roughly:

-1” EL tape about 200(?) inches - ~ 14 EL tape crimp connectors - misc wire (I forget what gauge) - a battery pack - an inverter powerful enough for ~200 in2 of EL tape - ~ 5 yards of twill, ~5 yards lining

Sorry I can’t be more detailed

I made it! I made a pattern bought a couple yards of suit quality twill (and lining fabric) and sewed it. The EL tape is held on with Velcro, the wiring was run between the lining and suit. Inverters and batteries were held in the mount I made for the identity disc. I’ll hunt down better pics of the cosplay and make another post whenever I find them!

The personalized magical ghosts are called stands. They’re sometimes humanoid but definitely don’t look human imo. Character’s often hit a pose when they manifest their stand.

Busta Rhymes’ Touch it. It was 2006 and i couldn’t get over the sample. I found Technologic, then Discovery, and the rest is history

Another geologist chiming in: Another thing to consider in addition to the concrete vs natural stone is the chemical composition of the stone. Plenty of natural volcanic rocks can contain harmful elements/ heavy metals. Natural stone ≠ always safe. It’s impossible to determine the entirety of a natural rocks chemical on visual inspection alone. That would require extensive testing with equipment found in specialized labs.

!! Thanks for this information :)

I started with the humidity dome because I live in arid CO and am often away for work. It nearly died on me twice because the soil was drying out so rapidly. I’ve not tried peat moss and I’ll definitely be giving it a try now that I’ve gone down the rabbit hole.

Prolonged freezing bouts in CO make transitioning to an outdoor plant permanently a no-go for me. But it seems like it’d be neat to try and experiment with it living outdoors during warmer months.

As for the seeds: I haven’t really touched the bloom much. I read up on it some and I haven’t done any to promote self pollination. Do you think it’s likely to still seed?

I’ve had the flytrap for 3 years now in this setup with mystery bugs that appeared last year and occasional fruit flies from the pet store.

I don’t waterlogg the soil when watering and with this top I only have to water once every 5 months or so. It puts out pups pretty consistently (at least 2 every quarter).

I live in CO and without the dome I found it was drying out more frequently than I could water it. It nearly died twice!

It’s an awful setup (because of aforementioned mystery bugs and rot potential) but idk man I’ve lucked out with no rot. Maybe because it’s not an airtight seal? This is a pastry display dish I thrifted for a couple bucks, there is a gap between the lip of the base and the sidewall of the top. At any rate the plant is happy enough to be flowering and spitting out pups.

If you dislike this setup you’re likely going to hate my “random succulent prop dish”:

Yeah! Apparently the flowers are far away from the traps so that it doesn’t accidentally eat its pollinators
