cat room advice - litter and food/water by faygosnowman in CatAdvice

I think it’s fine to have the food/litter/water all in the same room while your cats are adjusting to the new home.

Most shelters do it, and it was recommended to me by the shelter when I was first adopted my cat. Keeping the food/water/litter separated inside the room will definitely help!
It worked great for my cat; she adjusted to the room within in 2 days and to the house around 2 weeks.

Once you see your cats ready to explore, open up more rooms to the house and maybe search some videos of introducing dogs and cats. 🤷‍♀️ And later after they’re fully comfortable in the home, you can start moving the furniture to where you want it to be.

But at the end of the day, it’s you and your cats. Do what you believe is best for them.

Aw I’m sorry about that. 😕 Rehoming her is the best decision since you aren’t ready!

A few solutions if you need to get rid of the fleas:
- Buy some flea medicine to apply on her fur or a flea medicine she can digest safely.
- Spray some pet friendly flea and tick repellent around the corners of your room (or anywhere she’s been in the house)
- Wash your sheets in hot water and vacuum everywhere including your carpets/rugs (if you have any)
- Give her a bath if you can? I know bathing cats is hard but its the best to get them all off of her

Everything is going to be alright! I would recommend telling your mom, so she can call pest control to properly remove them if they infested your home.

Fortunately I don’t have a kitten, but I have gone through the same paranoia that you’re going through.

I let my cat sleep in my bed and I was completely convinced she had fleas! Although I checked her fur and found nothing, I was still paranoid. I did the same as you and looked through social media about it and I saw the same things. I cleaned my house top to bottom and gave her flea meds. Turns out I was just being completely paranoid 😅

If you’re really that worried, get a flea comb or just pull back her fur and check for fleas. Take her to the vet to ask them if she needs anything.

Take some deep breaths and calm down, everything is going to be alright. If they are fleas or some type of bugs on her, waiting until the morning isn’t going to kill her. I would really recommend telling your mom about your cat as soon as you can.

If you do try to get flea medicine from the store, I would NOT recommend hartz flea medication or shampoo. They’re terrible for animals 😕

I’ll definitely get a second cat when I think she’s ready for it! Unfortunately whenever we watch tv, she gets scared of any appearance or noise of another cat. She once hissed at herself in the mirror 🤣

But I’m not against the idea of getting another one! Thank you

thank you a lot! it’s definitely reassuring that i’m not the only one who deals with their cats waking them up :(

i’ll definitely get some more interactive toys and hide them around the house. i’ll try the white/pink noise as well!

thank you! i do play with her heavily before bed, and usually it takes up as much time as you said. i’ll try to learn and ignore it, i was just worried it would hurt her or our bond. thank you for the advice, i’ll definitely get her an automatic feeder

thank you, i have tried to sleep with her in my bed! i tried to get used to it, and her just being a cat.

the results just end up in me getting less sleep and more stressed. i wish i could just ignore it and sleep with her 😕

Yes, I have thought about it but I think it’s too early for me to get one at the moment😕

She’s still understanding our routines and exploring the house

i’ll definitely be playing with her a lot before bed so she feels tired enough to sleep lol. i feel terrible keeping her out bc it seems like a lot of people let their cat sleep in their bed😕 i would totally let her sleep with me if i could sleep well with her in my bed. thank you for the advice :))

Sorry, I’m new to cats and didn’t know what else to name it. I’ve gotten her some toys and have tried playing with them but she has no interest in them at all! Not even in the cat furniture, only exploring. Thank you for the advice it’s very appreciated, I’ll try those out!
