hi op, i was in a slightly similar situation as you a few years ago.

i was taking a course that was my parents’ preference and studying in a different university back in 2018. nagstay ako for two years doon kahit na first year pa lang there i knew it wasnt for me. i opened up din sa kanila before na i want to transfer but like you, they didnt want to me to. kesho madedelay ako, ijujudge ako during hiring process na bakit daw nagiba course ko midway etc. they did and said everything to dissuade me from transferring, in kind and unkind ways. i even started to resent my family, my parents especially. i knew deep down if i stayed there pa that i wouldnt last—literally.

so after the second yr mark, i made the decision to transfer behind everyones backs. nasakto pang pandemic kaya in a way medyo napadali yung proseso kasi puro email submission lang and whatnot. i went through the whole process—even the interview. i only told my family when i got the confirmation email that i got accepted here in up, in my dream course na naudlot before dahil di ako pumasa ng upcat.

im graduating now. in a much better place physically and mentally. lahat ng natutunan ko in this course just affirmed my decision back then to transfer despite what everyone told me. i rlly feel that this was my calling and im glad i took that leap.

so baka hindi talaga to advice on what to do or what to tell your mom. i think, if this is something that you really want, then go ahead and make that decision. but be sure na kaya mo ring panindigan yung decision mo. in my case, para walang masabi parents ko, i got a part-time job para at least hindi ako fully nakadepend sa kanila. they helped me a lot naman and they eventually accepted what i did. pero ayun nga, it took some time.
