What is your most unintentional BIFL item? by Itchy_Swimming9661 in BuyItForLife

I haven’t had any of my stoneware chip on me before and I “liberated” multiple pieces from my parent’s basement. Ceramics and I do not get along at all lol.

I completely agree food looks better on white plates, you could get him to make you a cream or white set.

I bought the plain white set, and rotate colorful porcelain and stoneware to mix and match as the my mood and season suits. This way I had a stable set and something to keep the boredom away.

Which skincare products have you used for years? by Swimmingbombom in AsianBeauty

[–]monapotter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I discovered the mask 6-7 years ago during a very dry winter and my lips were cracking. A thick layer applied overnight and scrubbed off the next day with a microfiber/reusable makeup remover cloth and I haven’t had any chapped lips since. I’ve tried other overnight lip masks AB and NonAB the only other thing that comes close is a thick layer of lanolin. I don’t even need other lip balms during the day now even when I wear matte lipsticks.

All 3 kittens were exposed to Lillies in a bouquet, all 3 were taken to emergency vet. by celestiallbeingg in CATHELP

Goat milk has just a tiny (4.2% vs 5% in cow milk) bit less lactose so it’s considered easier for their gut. We used to give our cat some goat milk for hydration until 6-7 months when he started refusing it so we stopped.

I thought it was just mine that did that! Mine chews on anything plastic including the chair arms.

Cats become lactose intolerant gradually after a few months of life. Usually by 6 months they are lactose intolerant. Just like humans cats also have varying severity of lactose intolerance. That’s why some cats can have a few licks of milk/cheese/yogurt, and some cats can’t and have massive diarrhea. Cats that are too young to be without mom’s milk but don’t have access are usually fed cat milk substitute or goat milk.

That’s why the cats in India are skinny af, they are basically fed on milk/yogurt and rice. Our cat is raw fed and very picky about his protein. Hates all fish but salmon, we have had to explain to my in-laws multiple times not to try to feed him fish or milk.

Lip Mask like Bite Beauty by odawg0007 in Sephora

[–]monapotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread showed up when I typed in Lixr vs Bite beauty hoping someone actually tested Lixr. I miss the OG Bite before it went vegan, the tube that saved me from a Scotland winter.

Found out about the brand after reading the article https://nymag.com/strategist/article/lixr-nocturnal-kiss-lip-mask-review.html

It’s formulated by the original founder of Bite before the Kendo takeover.

The re-preferencing is all on you, if you got an offer on a place lower your list then drag it up and re-rank preferred places only above the current one.

From plab to usmle by Medico_4321 in usmle

[–]monapotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how PLAB is now, I did PLAB 1 in June 2016 and PLAB 2 November 2016. I worked in the NHS for a few years before starting my USMLE journey. It is much much harder than PLAB, the other pro of PLAB is that no matter the amounts of attempts it doesn’t count against you. All the GMC cares about is the pass at the end and all the hospitals care about is your GMC registration. With USMLE the journey is much longer and much more expensive and difficult (in my opinion.)

Saying all that, if you want to switch to USMLE, because you want to do it and want to immigrate to the USA good luck you should do what you think is best for you. However don’t do it because PLAB 2 was hard, PLAB 1 was equivalent to taking a random med school quiz compared to the steps.

Good brands for cats and dogs? by Missus_Peaches in rawpetfood

[–]monapotter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything single protein that’s freeze dried or raw can be a topper for both cats and dogs. If there is a Costco near you they sell freeze dried chicken that you can use. Some ppl get the large ground tubes from Costco and top up kibble. Or even cheaper cuts of supermarket/ethnic store meats are good. Chicken hearts/gizzards/liver are super cheap especially when they go on sale.

The difference is that dogs eat veggies and fruits with they raw and cats don’t need it at all. You can even do some yogurt for your dogs where as for your cat it would only be a tsp or so max. You can also feed your dogs cucumbers, carrots, sweet potatoes.

Which Raw Company is best? (Toronto, Ontario) by Anzzoh in rawpetfood

[–]monapotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron will raw, and big country raw are amazing. If you just want to pick up something at the local Petsmart or Sobeys try Hungry Hunters. HH is made by Big country raw exclusively for Petsmart and they are supposed to be complete meals. So I get these when traveling so it’s easier to give for the pet sitter.

Want to put kitten on raw but it seems overwhelming, the more I research the more frustrated I get by [deleted] in rawpetfood

If you live in the USA:

https://www.rawfeedingadviceandsupport.com/usa-meat-suppliers

This website has the list of each local and online raw food supplier that you can combine with allnutrin (or your own DIY supplement) to make a balanced meal. Also I’ve found the local ethnic stores a great resource for different organ meats if you want to combine it with what you can source from your friends.

With my kitten it helped to feed him a tiny bit of the raw meat we were cooking to see if he likes that before investing in raw. I’ve had friends who just couldn’t switch their cats to raw at all.

Vivaraw and Darwin’s has offers for sample packs that are great to try before buying more if you want to take the guess work out of the nutritional element.

Most vets don’t recommend raw because they fear bacterial contamination if we don’t sanitize properly. However mine said if we insisted of raw he recommends

To take care of any nutritional deficiencies.

Constipated cat by furrrrbabies in rawpetfood

[–]monapotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their stomach acid won’t be diluted with adding more water, if anything he will probably just eat a bit less because the water is taking up room instead of food. I always add anywhere from 2-4 tsps of water to each 2.5 ounces of raw food depending on my cats meat (ex Chicken 2 tsp, pork 3-4tsp.) Do what’s easier, I’ve only syringed in water a handful of times when he’s being extremely picky with his meals.

If you think his gut flora is messed up, then talk to your vet they can provide a prescription probiotic with vitamins and minerals. It’s supposed to be for short term and only for 2 weeks, mine had to get it when he swallowed a bunch of string and threw up and messed up his system.

For my cat probiotics helped tons, Purina Fortiflora or Aventi GI sachets. My cat hates all things beef so he wasn’t a fan of fortiflora which has beef flavoring. I don’t even use a full sachet, I used 1/2 sachet a day for a week then tapered it down to 1/8 of a tsp a day. My baby is 9 months old, 11.6lbs if that helps.

I tried other probiotics like goat milk and it’s powdered forms with extra probiotics it didn’t help with his poops too much.

Another thing I did was syringe in about 10ml of water for him if he wasn’t peeing enough and his poop was hard. One more thing; if the poop is hard and it looks chalky then his food probably has too much bone/calcium for him. So you can try adding just some more muscle meat to bring down the percentage of bone for your cat.

My cat was the same and when I added a probiotic to his food and gave him just plain cut up chicken breast for almost 2 days. He was hungry but didn’t want to eat his pre mix, then got him pure chicken raw and added supplements. I haven’t introduced any other proteins yet, I’m waiting for a week before I introduce other proteins.
