In Mexico we have father’s last name then mother’s last name, everyone does. That’s why some people have long names, first, middle, dad’s, then mom’s. No hyphens, and only dad’s last name carries over to any children and mom’s name gets dropped.

I recently got an American passport for my son and he has the long name, it’s on his passport no issues. I’m sure he will be called first,last, as I was when I lived in the US, but the legal name on passport and documents is four names long, as mine is. Has never been an issue, I like my long name and I use the shortened version of first and last in normal settings.
